4-Star Wide Receivers Robbie Rhodes and Steven Mitchell Make Their Decisions

Edwin WeathersbyJun 4, 2018

Speedy Texas WR Robbie Rhodes has been making his way up the recruiting board.

Another player who has been a bit underrated on the recruiting board is wideout Steven Mitchell of California.

Today, both stud receivers have made their decisions to commit to schools. Come on inside, and let's take a look at where they are going and how they fit.

Here we go.

Steven Mitchell Commits to USC

1 of 4

Mitchell is from the greater Los Angeles area and had offers from many top programs. However, he's been camping at USC this weekend, and he finally got the offer he was looking for.

Lane Kiffin and Ed Orgeron spoke with Mitchell and his family, before offering him a scholarship.

Mitchell accepted on the spot, according to Scout.com, and becomes USC's ninth commitment of the 2013 class.

Robbie Rhodes Commits to Baylor

Rhodes is from Fort Worth, Texas and has been shooting up boards this spring.

He's had offers from some big-time programs, but getting out of the Lone Star State was always felt to be near impossible.

Rhodes confirmed that today, as he committed to Baylor, per Scout.com.

This now gives Baylor 11 commitments for the 2013 cycle, and Rhodes is the second 4-star prospect to pledge to Art Briles' program.

How Mitchell Fits in at USC

This gives USC a great future slot WR or a CB.

Mitchell is 5'11", 175 pounds and is more quick than fast. He's quick out of his breaks, has good ball skills and is excellent after the catch.

He also could help out in the return game, and playing him in the secondary on defense is always a possibility.

How Rhodes Fits in at Baylor

4 of 4

The Baylor Bears just picked up an excellent and perhaps a future No. 1 wideout.

Rhodes is 6'1" and 190 pounds, and he's as fast on the field as anyone. Pairing him up with 4-star dual-threat QB Chris Johnson should provide the folks in Waco some big-time highlights in the future.

Rhodes can explode off the line, eat up cushion, cut sharply, make a grab and use good run instincts in the open field with the ball. He can just as well just blow by a secondary and get deep for big plays, too.

Edwin Weathersby has worked in scouting/player personnel departments for three professional football teams, including the New York Giants, Cleveland Browns and the Las Vegas Gladiators of the Arena League.

He spent a year evaluating prep prospects and writing specific recruiting and scouting content articles for Student Sports Football (now ESPN Rise-HS). A syndicated scout and writer, he's also contributed to WeAreSC.com, GatorBait.net and Diamonds in the Rough Inc., a College Football and NFL Draft magazine.
