NBA Rumors: Orlando Magic Reportedly May Interview Shaq for GM Position
According to ESPN's Marc Stein, Shaquille O'Neal could meet with The Orlando Magic next week to interview for a GM job.
The Magic just cleaned house, firing former GM Otis Smith and head coach Steve Van Gundy. It's intriguing that this is the direction they may be going though.
Shaq was drafted by the Magic with the No. 1 overall pick of the 1992 NBA draft and played in Orlando for the first four seasons of his career before departing for Los Angeles. It would have been hard to envision the day when he interviewed for a job as the GM of a professional basketball team, but that time is now upon us.
He certainly knows the game better than most, and does a fantastic job on Inside the NBA, but will he be able to make the everyday decisions that come with being the GM of an NBA team?
I feel he is qualified.
Don't forget that this man has a degree in human resource development from Barry University. If there was ever a perfect college degree for a GM to have, it's that. The primary goal of human resource development, in theory, is to get the best you can out of people in order to make an organization work better and to improve performance (in layman's terms of course).
It seems like he got a degree in dealing with people, which will undoubtedly help him in his prospective career as a GM. Plenty of Shaq's other ventures have ended successfully (music, movies, law enforcement), so it wouldn't be a shock to see him succeed as a GM either.
Even if this turns out to be a total flop, we'll definitely get some laughs out of it.
