1 Thing to Steal, Er, Borrow from Every BCS Conference Football Stadium

Joe PenkalaMay 22, 2012

All of us have our favorite football program, but that does not stop us from appreciating some of the things that other teams have around the nation.

What makes college football so unique is that every program has something, or in some cases, someone that we all wish we could have for our Saturday experience. This is especially true when looking from coast to coast at teams' stadiums.

Looking at just the BCS schools, here are things, buildings or even people that we would "borrow" (for a really long time) from each stadium.

Boston College: Class of 1939 Eagle

1 of 69

Sitting at the South Gate is the class of 1939 Eagle statue. While it is not flashy, it is a symbol of Boston College football and would be a great item to start this collection with.

Clemson: Howard's Rock

2 of 69

Every home game, the Clemson Tigers come past Howard's Rock, give it a run and then bolt out onto the field. When taking a look at their stadium, there is nothing else that we would rather "borrow" than Howard's Rock.

Duke: Ball from the 1942 Rose Bowl

3 of 69

Back in the 1940s, Duke had a respectable football team that actually was heading to the Rose Bowl in 1942. Due to attacks on Pearl Harbor, the game was actually held at Duke Stadium, and a ball from that game would be priceless.

Florida State: Chief Osceola

4 of 69

This one may get you in a bit more trouble then usual but if you are going to take something from Florida State.

Go big and grab up Chief Osceola. Osceola comes riding out for every home game and plants the spear at midfield. He is one of the best traditions in college football.

Georgia Tech: City Skyline

5 of 69

Unlike most stadiums that are in wide open spaces, Bobby Dodd Stadium is right the heart of downtown Atlanta. The skyline and scenery around the stadium give it a unique vibe, and rather then an individual item, taking the location would be great.

Maryland: Testudo the Turtle

6 of 69

The Maryland Terrapins don't have a lot going for them, but one thing that they do have is the statue of Testudo the turtle that rests at their stadium.

Before every game, all the players walk by and touch the turtle. Out of all the statues around the nation, this one is relatively light.

Miami: Smoke Machine

7 of 69

Every home game, the Miami Hurricane players come flying out through the fog to a loud home crowd. For years Hurricane players have been doing this, so owning the fog machine that they use would link you to a lot of great players.

NC State: Fury Statue

8 of 69

Fury is the name of the statue that sits outside of the team entrance onto the field. The wolf looks great, and while it may be huge, it is the one thing that you would want to take out of the stadium.

North Carolina: Michael Jordan Memorabilia

9 of 69

While the North Carolina football program has had its bright spots, it is nothing compared to the basketball program. If you are on campus to see Kenan Memorial Stadium, it is time to leave and head over the the basketball arena and do your best to find some Michael Jordan memorabilia.

Virginia: The Mascot

10 of 69

Leading Virginia into each home game is its mascot, a cavalier on horseback. While the horse may be a lot of work to nab, seeing the Cavalier fly out every home game is a cool sight.

Virginia Tech: Audio System

11 of 69

Maybe it is what they play rather than what they play it on, but if you could get the audio system used inside Lane Stadium to pump "Enter Sandman" throughout your house, you would be living right.

Wake Forest: The Demon Deacon

12 of 69

One of the more interesting mascots in the nation is Wake Forest's Demon Deacon. While there may be a lot of cool things floating around BB&T Field, nothing would be better then having the Demon Deacon by your side during games at home.

Baylor: Robert Griffin's Heisman

13 of 69

When it comes to the Baylor program, there isn't a lot of things that would be in high demand. However, if you could get your hands on Robert Griffin's Heisman, even if it is a replica, it would be a good pull from the Bears.

Iowa State: Video Board

14 of 69

One of the newest and biggest video boards belongs to Iowa State. Iowa State just installed a new board last year, and this beauty is among the top 15 largest in the nation.

Kansas: Charlie Weis

15 of 69

Time to do the Jayhawk fans a favor and take Charlie Weis before he even gets started. Weis' track in the college ranks is far from impressive, and not much will change at Kansas.

Kansas State: Locker Room

16 of 69

While it isn't on the same level as Oregon's, Kansas State just updated its lockers in 2006 and put together a great-looking facility. Without much of note inside the stadium, this would be what we would set our eyes on at Kansas State.

Oklahoma: Oklahoma Wagon

17 of 69

While Boomer and Sooner are the main attraction, the thought is they may be too much work to take care of. With that said, instead of taking the two prized horses, it is time to take off with the wagon that they pull.

Oklahoma State: Boone Pickens

18 of 69

Much like Phil Knight and Oregon, Boone Pickens has been more then generous with Oklahoma State and has continued to improve the program's facilities. While the stadium is nice, it is time to bring Mr. Pickens with us and have him sprinkle some of that generosity on us.

TCU: The Horned Frog

19 of 69

Now that TCU is in the Big 12, they are bound to get even more exposure, and winning at the same rate that they were will give them more credibility. Also, their mascot will get more exposure, allowing everyone in the nation to see how cool he is. This is exactly the reason why he is coming with us.

Texas: Bevo

20 of 69

Get ready for a difficult undertaking, but it is time to snatch Bevo. Bevo is the mascot of the Longhorns but instead of stealing the animated mascot, we are shooting big and looking to take the mean-looking steer that is burnt orange.

Texas Tech: Victory Bell

21 of 69

It has been a tradition at Texas Tech to sound the victory bell after each Texas Tech victory. If you are leaving Jones AT&T Stadium with something, it is going to be that bell.

West Virginia: Scoreboard

22 of 69

In 2008, the school ponied up for a new scoreboard, and it looks amazing. The scoreboard is huge and would take a monumental effort to get out of town, so start planning now.

Cincinnati: Sound System

23 of 69

It is slim pickings at the Big East's smallest stadium. Nippert Stadium is in severe need of an upgrade, but if you were looking to take off with an item, get your hands on the sound system that the school uses.

Connecticut: Concert Tickets

24 of 69

When it comes to coveted items, Rentschler Field falls flat. The home of the Huskies does not have a ton of must-have items, but with artists like Eminem, the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen and others making tour stops there, grabbing some concert tickets may not be a bad idea.

Louisville: High Def Scoreboard

25 of 69

Louisville has one of the nicest scoreboards, installed back in 2006. The state-of-the-art, high def scoreboard looks amazing and, like any giant television, would be a desired item of most college football fans.

Pittsburgh: Super Bowl Trophy

26 of 69

Much like other teams that share a stadium, the Panthers are overshadowed by the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers are a NFL powerhouse, so shoot big and try to grab one of their six Super Bowl trophies.

Rutgers: Brown Football Recruiting Pavilion

27 of 69

After receiving a donation, the Rutgers football program put together the Brown Football Recruiting Pavilion. The pavilion provides a place for the school to host recruits and is a great recruiting tool in a conference like the Big East.

Temple: An NFC Championship Banner

28 of 69

One of the issues of playing at the same stadium as a professional team is that the college team tends to be overlooked. For Temple, they play at Lincoln Financial Field, so the real item to steal in this situation would be part of the Eagles' history, not Temple's.

South Florida: Tampa Bay Bucs Cannon

29 of 69

By playing at Raymond James Stadium, the Bulls share a home with the Tampa Bay Bucs. While the history isn't very deep with South Florida, getting your hands on the cannon the Bucs use would be pretty cool.

Syracuse: Jim Brown Memorabilia

30 of 69

The richest part of Syracuse's football program dates back to when Jim Brown was in the backfield for the Orange. While there isn't a lot to take off with from the Carrier Dome, any Jim Brown memorabilia would be great.

Illinois: The Grange Rock

31 of 69

Illinois has a rock that motivates the players as well, and it is named after Red Grange. The Grange Rock is a piece held dearly by Illini fans and would be a huge deal should it turn up missing.

Indiana: Hep's Rock

32 of 69

A lesser-known tradition of touching a rock before taking the field takes place at Indiana. Indiana players all walk past Hep's Rock and rub it before stepping onto the field, and it is the most valuable piece at Memorial Stadium.

Iowa: Nile Kinnick's Statue

33 of 69

The namesake of the stadium also has a statue out front, and it is extremely unique. You would think that at the entrance to a football stadium, the statue of Nile Kinnick would be of him in uniform, but instead it is of him dressed as a scholar. Truly a unique piece.

Michigan: Go Blue Banner

34 of 69

One of the best traditions in the nation is when the Wolverines come flying out onto the field and run out to slap the Go Blue Banner. How cool would it be for a Michigan fan to "borrow" this and be able to wake up and slap the banner every morning.

Michigan State: Sparty

35 of 69

Time to get out the duck tape and rope because we are taking Sparty. Michigan State is a program on the rise, but its mascot Sparty is one of the nation's best and is coming with us.

Minnesota: Game Ball from Bears vs Vikings

36 of 69

Back in 2010 when the Metrodome roof collapsed in Minnesota, the NFL moved a regular-season game to TCF Bank Stadium. Based on Gophers' lack of success, it would be nice to get a game ball from this game rather then anything Gopher related.

Northwestern: Wildcat Statue

37 of 69

In one of the end zones inside Ryan Field sits a huge statue of a Wildcat. While there isn't much to take from the stadium, hauling in this statue would be a great grab and a huge undertaking.

Nebraska: Husker Legacy Statue

38 of 69

Speaking of statues, when going to Memorial Stadium, it is time to figure out a way to leave with the Husker Legacy Statue. The statue displays the years the Huskers were national champions and would be a great piece for any Husker fan.

Ohio State: Ohio State Marching Band

39 of 69

It would be a heck of an undertaking, but why not shoot big here and try to take the entire Ohio State marching band. The band at Ohio State is one of the best in the nation, and Buckeye fans love seeing this band dot the I every week.

Penn State: Plain White Shirt

40 of 69

When talking about Beaver Stadium at Penn State, you immediately start to think about the white-outs that they execute throughout the season. If simply grabbing a white shirt meant that you could be part of a white-out game, it would be completely worth it.

Purdue: Any Drew Brees Memorabilia

41 of 69

Purdue is the collegiate home of Drew Brees. Brees has been tearing up the NFL for some time now, and it would be a great addition to any collection to get some college memorabilia from Purdue that has to deal with Brees and his time there.

Wisconsin: Jump Around Tradition

42 of 69

While it may not be a physical item, it is time to take the Jump Around tradition from Wisconsin. As the third quarter ends, Jump Around starts to play over the audio system, making the crowd go crazy.

Notre Dame: Touchdown Jesus

43 of 69

One of the holy grails of college football is a sight you can only see on Notre Dame's campus. Fans come from far and wide to get a peek at Touchdown Jesus. If you could find a way to get this in your backyard, you don't even want to imagine the car traffic you'll start to see.

Arizona: In-Stadium Dorm Life

44 of 69

One of the coolest aspects of Arizona Stadium is the fact that part of the stadium houses students. Can you imagine going to school, and then when you finally get to the weekend you get to experience Saturdays in the fall in which your dorm is in the stadium?

Arizona State: Their Co-Eds

45 of 69

While you may envy the weather, envy Arizona State for its attractive fans. Anytime you go to a Sun Devils game, you are bound to bump into some attractive college girls.

Cal: Cal Cannon

46 of 69

If you are going to grab something from Cal, it is going to be the Cal Cannon. While the stadium is getting a facelift, getting out with the Cannon would be quite the feat.

Colorado: Ralphie

47 of 69

If you thought getting out of Cal with the cannon was tough, try getting out of Colorado with Ralphie the buffalo. Ralphie has been running onto the home field for quite some time, and getting him out of there would be a huge undertaking.

Oregon: Locker Room

48 of 69

While it is not technically in the stadium, if you could transfer Oregon's locker room to your hometown, you would be in love. The locker room is outfitted with custom lighting, televisions all over the place, ventilation systems in the individual lockers and more.

Oregon State: Benny the Beaver

49 of 69

Reser Stadium is fairly bland, so if you are going to target something, go after Benny the Beaver. Benny is one of the more recognizable mascots in the nation and would be the best you could go for.

Stanford: The Stanford Band

50 of 69

Lets face it, the Stanford band is crazy, but they are the most entertaining band in the land. Imagine having a private performance from this band in your backyard—simply insane.

UCLA: The Rose Bowl

51 of 69

Time to shoot for the moon. UCLA is lucky enough that it gets to play in the most beautiful stadium in the nation. When looking at the Rose Bowl, you cannot pick just one thing, so it is time to figure out how to take the whole darn thing.

USC: Trojan Sword

52 of 69

One of the coolest sights in the nation is watching a Trojan soldier come out and plant his sword into the turf during a USC home game. Getting your hands on this item would be a truly amazing feat.

Utah: Any Olympic Memorabilia

53 of 69

In 2002, Rice-Eccles Stadium held the opening ceremony for the Winter Olympics. While the stadium may not be crawling with college football relics, there has to be something left over from the Olympics that would be cool to own.

Washington: The Lake View

54 of 69

Not every stadium has an item that you would want to take. In the example of Husky Stadium, no single item would be on the list, but instead capturing that lakefront view would be simply amazing for any fan.

Washington State: Cougar Pride

55 of 69

Outside of Martin Stadium sits an 11-foot tall statue of a cougar that was placed there in 2008. If you are a Cougar fan, this would make a memorable addition to your man room.

Alabama: Nick Saban

56 of 69

Forget the rules, forget the laws, if I go down to Alabama I am not leaving until I have kidnapped Nick Saban and gotten him to agree that he will come coach the school of my choice. Anything less than that would be a failure.

Arkansas: PigScreen

57 of 69

Another SEC team to get its priorities straight is Arkansas. Arkansas is home to a video board that measures 107 feet wide and 30 feet high. It is simply an amazing sight.

Auburn: 2010 National Title Trophy

58 of 69

As an enraged Oregon fan, I am heading straight into this stadium, grabbing up the 2010 national championship trophy and bringing it home. While the Tigers won the game far and square, that won't stop me from being bitter and taking the crystal football.

Florida: This Is the Swamp

59 of 69

Along with Death Valley at LSU, the Swamp at Florida is another one of the best nicknames in the nation. When heading to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, we need to make sure we leave with the part of the wall that reads "This is...THE SWAMP."

Georgia: The Hedges

60 of 69

Any time you watch a game at Georgia, you hear about the fact that these two teams are playing between the hedges. This is in reference to the landscaping done in Sanford Stadium, but it would still be extremely cool to have your own.

Kentucky: New Audio System

61 of 69

Last year, Kentucky decided to install a new audio system into Commonwealth Stadium. Combine this with the big screen you are taking from Ole Miss, and you have a killer setup to watch television on.

LSU: The Nickname Death Valley

62 of 69

When you think of LSU and its home field, you think of the impossible night games that some teams have to go play there, but then also you think of the nickname Death Valley. While it isn't a physical item, taking the nickname Death Valley would be just as good.

Mississippi State: Photo from September 20, 2001

63 of 69

Right after 9/11, the first college football game to resume action was at Davis Wade Stadium between Mississippi State and South Carolina. Simply owning a photo of the teams taking the field for that game would be more then enough for most.

Missouri: Faurotious Field Dawg

64 of 69

Luckily for Missouri fans and all college football fans, you don't need to steal a Faurotious Field Dawg to have one. The hot dog was added to the menu last year and may be one of the best stadium treats you will find in the nation.

Ole Miss: Video Display

65 of 69

While the Ole Miss players may not be giving fans much to cheer about these days, the video board that the Rebels have is spectacular. It is the eighth largest in the nation and would be great for watching games at home.

South Carolina: The East Upper Deck

66 of 69

The east upper deck at Williams-Brice Stadium has been known to sway when the fans really get loud. Not only is this an intimidating sight but would also be a cool feature to incorporate into a new stadium as long as it remained safe.

Tennessee: Checkerboard End Zone

67 of 69

One of the most underrated parts about Tennessee and its home field is the checkerboard end zones. It is truly one of the most unique sights in college football. and it is time to take it with us.

Texas A&M: 12th Man Sign

68 of 69

While it may be simple, inside of Kyle Field is lettering that spells out what the fans are all about, Home of the 12th Man. The Aggie fans get extremely loud and try to be that difference maker. Taking this lettering down would at the same time demoralize the fan base while giving you something to brag about.

Vanderbilt: Carrie Underwood

69 of 69

I am going to be brutally honest with Vanderbilt. There isn't much worth taking from your stadium. What we need to hope for here is that Carrie Underwood shows up to a game, with Vanderbilt's home being Nashville, and that you would have the opportunity to take her home.
