Chelsea Transfer News: Blues Need to Forget About Fiorentina's Stevan Jovetic

Stevan Jovetic is locked up with Fiorentina until 2016, but that isn't stopping Chelsea from courting him.

According to The Mirror, Chelsea has been trying to sign the 22-year-old star since January but has been unable to reach an agreement—and now that the transfer window has opened up, they are right back at it.

Fiorentina club administrator Sandro Mencucci, however, isn't having any of it. He foresees Jovetic as the centerpiece of the club for years to come, and he no longer wants Chelsea snooping around and trying to lure his star away.

Mencucci told The Mirror:

We want to build our future around Jovetic. He has a contract until June 2016. Being a great player, it's normal that several clubs are monitoring him. 

"

Mencucci is right about that: It's no surprise that other teams are courting Jovetic. This season, he made 27 appearances for Fiorentina and tallied 14 league goals.

But is there enough keeping Jovetic with Fiorentina, which finished 14th in the league this season? According to ESPN.com, he's interested in seeking a "new challenge"—perhaps with a team that can offer him a more competitive environment.

But Chelsea may have to up the ante—in terms of both competition and funds—if they want to bring him on board. The Daily Mail reports that Jovetic rejected a £14 million offer back in January.

Whether Jovetic intends to stay or leave, the least amount of time this drama drags on, the better. As Mencucci said, Fiorentina plans to build its future around him—and if they have no star to build around, they might as well start seeking a new future sooner rather than later.
