NBA Draft 2012: Breaking Down the 7 Best Fits for Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

Mike B.Jun 7, 2018

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist would be an ideal fit with a ton of NBA teams.

The Kentucky freshman forward possesses an all-around game and is known mostly for his incredible athleticism and defense.

MKG, who has a ton of potential, teamed with fellow future NBAers Anthony Davis, Terrance Jones, Doron Lamb and Marquis Teague to lead the Wildcats to a national title last month.

He is expected to be a top-five pick in the 2012 NBA draft and could possibly go as high as second overall, right behind Davis.

Here's a look a the seven best fits for Kidd-Gilchrist.

7. Toronto Raptors

1 of 7

Kidd-Gilchrist and DeMar DeRozan would give Toronto one of the league's most athletic and exciting young tandems.

Along with Andrea Bargnani, Jose Calderon and Jonas Valanciunas, the Raptors could have one of the most dangerous starting lineups in the Eastern Conference.

6. Sacramento Kings

2 of 7

Sacramento could use a big man like UConn's Andre Drummond to pair with DeMarcus Cousins. They also could also use a defensive stopper like Kidd-Gilchrist.

MKG would be an ideal fit with the struggling Kings.

With a plethora of scorers on the roster like Cousins, Tyreke Evans, Marcus Thornton and Jimmer Fredette, Kidd-Gilchrist wouldn't be asked to be the primary go-to guy, but to shut down the opposing team's best perimeter scorer.

5. Cleveland Cavaliers

3 of 7

Kidd-Gilchrist certainly wouldn't make Clevelanders forget all about LeBron James, but he could certainly ease the pain of losing a three-time NBA MVP.

Kidd-Gilchrist could team with future All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving to give the Cavs a nice one-two punch to build around for years to come.

4. Washington Wizards

4 of 7

The Wizards have a talented, young player in John Wall, who stayed only one season at Kentucky.

With Kidd-Gilchrist in the mix, Washington would have yet another former UK one-and-done who's capable of becoming a star at the next level.

Wall, MKG and Jordan Crawford would be a terrific under-25-year-old trio for the Wizards to build around.

3. New Orleans Hornets

5 of 7

The Hornets are looking for a core to build around.

They traded All-Star floor general Chris Paul to Los Angeles and Eric Gordon might end up leaving as a free agent this summer.

New Orleans will have two lottery picks in this year's draft, meaning they'll have a good chance at landing Kidd-Gilchrist, who could become the team's next franchise player.

No doubt about it, MKG would put smiles on the faces of fans down in Louisiana.

2. Golden State Warriors

6 of 7

Kidd-Gilchrist would be an excellent pickup for Golden State.

He would provide the team with outstanding defense, which is what Warriors head coach Mark Jackson is all about.

Kidd-Gilchrist, along with guys like Stephen Curry, David Lee, Klay Thompson and a healthy Andrew Bogut, could surely bring playoff basketball back to the Bay Area in a hurry.

1. Charlotte Bobcats

7 of 7

The 7-59 Bobcats desperately need a star and Kidd-Gilchrist could very well be the answer.

Bobcats fans would rather have Kidd-Gilchrist's college teammate Anthony Davis come to town, but MKG could have a big-time impact as well.

He could instantly emerge as Charlotte's alpha dog and lead the team in scoring in his rookie season.
