NBA Trade Rumors: Lamar Odom Would Be Good Fit with Suns
Lamar Odom is no longer needed in Dallas, but he would be a nice fit for the Phoenix Suns.
The Mavericks will attempt to trade Odom this offseason, according to ESPN. Any team that has him on its roster can buy him out for $2.4 million, or it will have to pay the full $8.2 million he is scheduled to make next season.
Odom came into Dallas as the reigning Sixth Man of the Year, but he was never able to fit in, struggling to stay focused after being traded by the Los Angeles Lakers. On Sunday, it came to a head, with the Mavericks voting for him not to get his share of playoff money.
Odom undoubtedly has a lot of value as a point-forward type player, but his issues this past season may have scared some teams away. There are, however, plenty of teams that should come calling anyway.
The Suns make a lot of sense for Odom. He's the type of player who could fit in nicely with Steve Nash. Nash has expressed the desire for the Suns to add a playmaker and Odom could potentially keep Nash in Phoenix when he hits free agency this offseason.
Odom also played for Alvin Gentry when he was with the Los Angeles Clippers, having some of his best statistical seasons under Gentry's guidance. There's the potential for Gentry to rekindle Odom's fire in Phoenix.
Odom would instantly make the Suns a playoff contender if he stayed focused. The Suns barely missed out on the playoffs this season, despite not having a lot of star power beyond Nash.
Odom will be closer to home in Phoenix and he potentially has the chance to play for another playoff contender in the Suns.
