College Football: 2013 Weekly Recruiting Roundup April 27-May 3

Michael FelderMay 3, 2012

It is Thursday, and with Thursdays comes our weekly look around the nation at the happenings in recruiting. Before we get into the big commitments from the last week, we do have news of a decommitment. Lewis Neal, an Ohio State commitment from the Scarlet and Gray game, re-opened his recruitment this week and LSU is now in play for the North Carolina defensive end.

On the plus side, we've got a couple of SEC teams that are pushing to get into the big recruiting race. South Carolina picked up two commitments this week, and Texas A&M got a pledge from a quarterback. For the Gamecocks, Mohamed Camara, a linebacker from Georgia, and Devante Covington, a defensive end from North Carolina, were added to the 2013 class. Kenny Hill, a Southlake Carroll quarterback, committed to the Aggies and new head coach Kevin Sumlin.

Heading to the Midwest, Notre Dame picked up a tight end commitment in Mike Heuerman. Heuerman is a Florida high school football player and he looks to be the next sound tight end for the Fighting Irish.

Wisconsin, after seeing the heat the Michigan and Ohio State are putting on the Big Ten, was able to secure two commitments this week. Chikwe Obasih, a defensive end from Brookfield, Wisconsin, joined Bret Bielema's 2013 haul. The Badgers also added wide receiver Rob Wheelwright to the class.

Crossing the country we see that things have been busy in the Pacific Northwest. Oregon grabbed an offensive line recruit in Evan Voeller this week, but Washington is making the most noise.

The Huskies put five kids in the boat, four on defense and an offensive linemen. Tosh Lupoi, the big-time recruiter brought to help Steve Sarkisian grab California talent, helped get both Dane Crane, an offensive lineman, and Coonor O'Brien, a defensive back, on the Huskies' commitment list.

Linebacker Sean Constantine committed to the Huskies to bring some help to their defense in 2013, as did defensive back Jamie Bryant. Both Constantine and Bryant are local kids staying close to home. Washington also added Derek Babiash to their commitment list this week

We'll keep you updated all season long folks as kids commit, decommit and the recruiting battles heat up.
