NBA Draft 2012: Projected Second-Round Picks Destined to Make Major Impact
The 2012 NBA draft is less than two months away, and there are a number of talented former college basketball stars ready to enter the league and make an impact right away.
Outside of the first round though, there are a plethora of names that could be called, but only a few capable of making major waves in their first NBA season.
Join Bleacher Report as we take a closer look at five projected second-round selections who are poised to make an impact early on in their professional careers.
Orlando Johnson, SG, UC Santa Barbara
1 of 5A 23-year-old senior out of Seaside, California, UC Santa Barbara's Orlando Johnson is one of the best shooting guards available this June. He will be an impact rookie because of his incredible ability to score.
Johnson is one of the more consistent perimeter scorers out there. He averaged 18, 21.1 and 19.7 points per game in his sophomore, junior and senior seasons, respectively.
Johnson is also a tremendous rebounding guard. At 6'5", he hardly presents a mismatch at his position, but still he averaged six rebounds per game his last two seasons with UC Santa Barbara.
He declared for last year's NBA draft but wound up withdrawing before the deadline to complete his senior season and improve his stock.
Quincy Acy, SF, Baylor
2 of 5Quincy Acy was one of the key cogs in Baylor's run to the Elite 8 of March's NCAA tournament. The 6'7" small forward is a superb rebounder for his position, averaging 7.5 per game in his last two seasons with the Bears.
Acy's tremendous speed and length will be his biggest asset at the next level, and therefore, he will have the potential to make an immediate impact on the game.
Acy may not wow with his scoring like some of the other second-round prospects out there, but he will get to loose balls quicker and make more of the subtle plays that win games.
Tu Holloway, PG, Xavier
3 of 5A four-year player with the Xavier Musketeers, 6'0" point guard Tu Holloway is a capable scorer and one of the better floor generals coming out this summer.
Holloway declared for the draft last year after a strong junior season in which he averaged 19.7 points, 5 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game.
Holloway's speed and phenomenal ability to penetrate and handle the ball will make him an underrated second-round prospect without question.
Jae Crowder, SF, Marquette
4 of 5Marquette senior small forward Jae Crowder was one of the best all-around players in college basketball last season.
Crowder, who is 6'6", 225 pounds, averaged 17.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game in his senior season.
He brings a relentless energy to the hardwood.
The 21-year-old already has the body to be great at the next level, and his defensive intensity and perimeter skill will make him one of the more surprising second-round prospects to come out of this year's draft.
Robbie Hummel, SF, Purdue
5 of 5Purdue's Robbie Hummel, a 23-year-old small forward who seems to do everything right on and off the court, could easily become one of the biggest second-round steals of this summer's draft.
At 6'8", Hummel is a tough rebounder who will battle with anyone. He also happens to be a very smart passer who knows how to get others involved.
The biggest strength in Hummel's game, though, is his shooting, specifically what he could bring to the NBA as another great long-range threat capable of stretching defenses and providing firepower for a reserve unit.
Hummel shot better than 38 percent last season from beyond the arc and is also a solid free throw shooter with a high basketball IQ.
