2012 NFL Mock Draft: Full First-Round Mock with Trades

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

Draft-day trades are one of the most exciting parts of the three-day process.

The Washington Redskins took all the drama out of the draft's biggest trade, but the door is now open for someone else to steal the show on draft night.

Here's a look at the first round with a few of the most talked-about potential trades.

1. Indianapolis Colts (2-14): Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

Start pre-ordering your Luck jerseys, Colts fans.

2. *Washington Redskins (5-11): Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor

The draft's biggest trade thus far, Washington will now turn its focus to its few remaining selections.

3. Minnesota Vikings (3-13): Matt Kalil, OT, USC

With so much drama surrounding the pick right now, the best move for the Vikes is to actually sit tight and add Matt Kalil. He helps them immediately and aids their two most important players.

4. Cleveland Browns (4-12): Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama

The Browns could move out of this spot, but not if Richardson is there for the taking. This team has too big a need for a playmaker to pass on the Crimson Tide superstar.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-12): Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU

Tampa has toyed with idea of moving down, but it should have the opportunity to land one of its biggest needs at either cornerback or running back. If both Mo and Richardson are gone, we can expect the Bucs to move like hell to get out of the way.

6. *St. Louis Rams (2-14): Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State

The Rams have already moved down once and could do so again, but are they really going to pass up the opportunity to get Sam Bradford a proven playmaker?

7. Jacksonville Jaguars (5-11): Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina

This is a hotspot for trade depending who is on the board, but it is unlikely anyone comes in for Ryan Tannehill just yet.

Gilmore is a rising prospect and the type of guy the Jags would take here.

8. Miami Dolphins (6-10): Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M

The Dolphins claim they won't be pressured into a QB, and Michael Floyd or Mark Barron (although a reach) make sense here, but if they have any belief that Tannehill will be a franchise QB, then they have to take him.

9. Carolina Panthers (6-10): Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi State

Cam Newton's team needs help defensively and trading won't do it much here. Cox gives Carolina a versatile weapon to play with on the line.

10. Buffalo Bills (6-10): Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame

There isn't anybody worth trading up for right now except for Barron, but the teams chasing him are picking in the next five.

11. Kansas City Chiefs (7-9): David DeCastro, OG, Stanford

DeCastro gives the Chiefs a mauling interior lineman that will give them another boost in their run game with the return of Jamaal Charles from injury.

12. Seattle Seahawks (7-9): Quinton Coples, DE, UNC

Pete Carroll's team is going to sit tight and see who falls its way. The Seahawks are reportedly interested in Tannehill if he were to fall, but Coples is a solid consolation prize if they can find a way to keep him motivated.

13. Arizona Cardinals (8-8): Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College

There has been some talk of the Cardinals coming up, but that doesn't make a ton of sense. If anything, the Cardinals are a great trade target for someone interest in Barron.

14. Dallas Cowboys (8-8): Mark Barron, S, Alabama

The Cowboys might get nervous and jump up early for the Alabama safety, but he could slip through to them and they'd be absolutely thrilled.

Barron will step on the field and start from day one in Big D.

15. Philadelphia Eagles (8-8): Michael Brockers, DT, LSU

The redshirt sophomore defensive tackle has great upside the potential to be a star.

The Eagles could very well move up the board, but if it is for Cox they'd be making a mistake if Brockers fell through to them.

Philadelphia and Dallas will be very wary of each other on draft day.

16. New York Jets (8-8): Melvin Ingram, DE/OLB, South Carolina

Gang Green are a threat to move up when the clock ticks, but it won't be easy and it will be costly.

17. Cincinnati Bengals (8-8, via OAK): Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama

With two picks in the first round, it is safe to say the Bengals should sit tight and just get better. They acquired this pick courtesy of a trade involving Carson Palmer.

18. San Diego Chargers (8-8): Chandler Jones, DE/OLB, Syracuse

Rumor has it the Chargers are interested moving up for Mark Barron. They'd have to beat Dallas and Philly to the punch and it will cost a lot. Don't put it past A.J. Smith though.

19. Chicago Bears (8-8): Cordy Glenn, OG, Georgia

Chicago already made enough noise when it traded for Brandon Marshall. Sitting at No. 19 is its best move and Glenn gives the Bears great versatility.

20. Tennessee Titans (9-7): Nick Perry, DE, USC

The Titans could move out of this spot, but again, who is coming up?

21. Cincinnati Bengals (9-7): Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor

Landing a starting receiver opposite A.J. Green will give this team a great young nucleus to play with for the foreseeable future.

22. Cleveland Browns (10-6, via ATL): Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech

Acquired from the Julio Jones last year, it is only fitting that the Browns spend this pick on a future star at the wide receiver position.

23. Baltimore Ravens (12-4): Dont'a Hightower, LB, Alabama

—Trade with Lions—

Baltimore gets antsy and worries about the Steelers taking Dont'a Hightower even though Dontari Poe is still on the board. The Memphis big man's stock is falling while Hightower is a sure-fire starter if needed from Day 1.

The Lions, meanwhile, see value in their favor by moving down.

24. Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4): Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis

After the Ravens steal their man, the Steelers settle for the falling Poe instead.

25. Denver Broncos (8-8): Devon Still, DT, Penn State

Peyton Manning and the offense are going to take care of themselves, but John Elway needs to land some defensive help if John Fox is going to succeed.

26. Houston Texans (10-6): Reuben Randle, WR, LSU

The Texans can't go wrong adding a receiver who can contribute immediately opposite Andre Johnson.

27. New England Patriots (13-3, via NO): Courtney Upshaw, DE/OLB, Alabama

The Pats are always a threat to trade out, but Upshaw comes from a defense Bill Belichick can trust and he knows he's getting a better football player here with a tremendously high floor than an athlete.

28. Green Bay Packers (15-1): Shea McClellin, DE/OLB, Boise State

The Packers, on the other hand, opt for a potential-laden pick in McClellin who could star opposite Clay Matthews Jr.

29. Detroit Lions (10-6): Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa

—Trade with Ravens—

The Lions move down the board pays off as a once-potential top 10 player falls down the board to them at No. 29. A pass-rusher was what they wanted, but instead they land a guy who does the exact opposite.

30. San Francisco 49ers (13-3): Kevin Zeitler, OG, Wisconsin

Zeitler gives San Fran an immediate starter on the interior and he'll bring the consistency it's lacked at guard for a while now.

31. Cleveland Browns (4-12): Brandon Weeden, QB, Oklahoma State

—Trade with Patriots—

Cleveland turns to a trusty trading partner in the Patriots and leaves nothing to chance with a new potential starter at quarterback. There is no telling who will pay what and with the Giants, a team with no dire needs, sitting behind New England, there is no telling if someone else will come shooting up the board for a guy who can start this year.

We know Kansas City has been keeping tabs on quarterbacks, so leaving nothing to chance is better than being forced to go into season with a quarterback their not sold on.

32. New York Giants (9-7): Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford

Big Blue will take the best available player regardless of position.

*Rams trade No. 2 overall pick to Redskins for 2012, 2013, 2014 first-round picks and 2012 second-round pick.
