Arkansas Reportedly Reached Out to Pete Carroll About Coaching Vacancy

The University of Arkansas looked to land a pretty big fish to replace fired head football coach Bobby Petrino.

According to a report from 5News Sports in Arkansas, the university contacted Seattle Seahawks and former USC head coach Pete Carroll about taking over as the head coach of the Razorbacks.

Carroll has already turned them down. He made as much known through his Twitter account while endorsing former San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions head coach Steve Mariucci for the job:

Carroll is heading towards his third season as the head coach of the Seahawks. He guided the Seahawks to 7-9 records in each of his first two seasons, winning the NFC West in 2010. Seattle also went on to defeat the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints in the playoffs that year.

Before arriving in Seattle, Carroll went 83-19 in nine seasons as the head coach of the USC Trojans. The team enjoyed some significant national success under his watch, including wins in six BCS bowl games. Many of USC's accomplishments, however, were stripped due to NCAA violations.

Carroll isn't the only big-name coach who has been linked to the Razorbacks since the program fired Petrino last week. The report from 5News Sports claims Mariucci contacted Arkansas about its head coach opening, and CBS Sports has linked the Hogs to former Tennessee head coach Phillip Fulmer.

Arkansas fired Petrino after the university found out that he had lied about not having a passenger in a recent motorcycle accident. It turned out he was riding with a 25-year-old former volleyball player named Jessica Dorrell, who Petrino had hired to work with the football team several days earlier.

Sporting News has reported that Arkansas will make an announcement about its coaching search early next week.
