Penn State Football Recruiting: Do the Lions Have a Shot at WR Robert Foster?
Robert Foster is among the top offensive prospects in the country for 2013, as the wide receiver is explosive and speedy, to say the least. Much has been made of his recruitment, yet Foster likes to let his play and performance speak for themselves.
Being from Monaca, Pa., that means a certain school in Happy Valley has come calling, but Foster has just about every program in the country wanting his services.
I'm here to beg the question, does Penn State have a chance to land him?
Who Is Robert Foster?
1 of 6Foster is a 6'2", 190-pound WR from the Pittsburgh area, of Central Valley High School in Monaca. He hauled in 37 receptions for 584 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior, while also rushing for another 500 yards.
Foster is known for his release quickness and explosion off the line. He can eat up cushion in a flash and can get deep on top of a secondary as well as any WR prospect in the country. Foster has solid hands, but he'll need more reps to expand his strike zone.
However, once he's secure with the football, Foster is electric. His RAC skills are among the elite, and he's a big home run threat.
Foster Made a Name for Himself in San Antonio
2 of 6Every year we focus in on the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and all of the invites, players, practices and announcements that take place during the week and at the game.
But what many people don't realize is that there is also an underclassmen combine that takes place for the top junior players who also go down to San Antonio that week.
Well, last year, the player who won MVP of the entire combine was one Robert Foster. Although Foster has been on the recruiting radar since his sophomore year, he had a breakout performance at the underclassmen combine and won MVP, which really made people stand up and take notice.
Offers
3 of 6Per Scout.com, Foster has offers from many of the nation's best programs.
Alabama, Oregon, Florida, Florida State, Ohio State, Clemson, Penn State, Michigan, USC, Notre Dame and Pittsburgh are among his top offers. He tops out at about 30 offers total.
Foster is good enough to play anywhere in the country, and many programs are recruiting him. He told Scout.com in January that being comfortable is one of the main factors that will affect his decision, along with academics.
Any Schools Standing Out?
4 of 6I don't think anyone is really standing out to Foster right now. He doesn't seem to be fazed by his recruitment and even told Rivals.com that he doesn't even read his mail.
However, Foster has visited Ohio State twice, was at Alabama's spring game and also has visited Happy Valley. Pitt has also gotten a visit from Foster.
Where Does Penn State Stand?
5 of 6The Nittany Lions are in the mix for Foster, but they'll have to go at it with some top-notch programs.
Foster was in Happy Valley in February and met with Bill O'Brien and Stan Hixon. His offseason 7-on-7 team will likely be at the Blue and White game, where Foster surely will get the royal treatment there, too.
Five-star tight end Adam Breneman has stated in the past that he will try to convince Foster to join him at Penn State. The Nittany Lions are in the mix, but they'll have to really work hard to get Foster.
Conclusion
6 of 6In conclusion, the answer is yes.
Yes, Penn State has a chance to land 5-star WR Robert Foster.
The question now becomes, will the Nittany Lions land him?
My guess? No.
Right now, I think Foster will end up at Ohio State. But it's still early in the game, and we have all the way until next February to follow his recruitment, so Penn State has plenty of time.
