College Football Recruiting 2013: Does USC Lead for Su'a Cravens?

Edwin WeathersbyJun 4, 2018

Su'a Cravens is a national level 5-star prospect from Southern California who is viewed as one of the best DB/OLB prospects in the nation. Cravens also has the athleticism to play RB and WR, yet his defensive prowess makes him an elite player.

Being from the Murrieta area in Southern California obviously puts Cravens on the radar of a particular school that is home to the Men of Troy. Rumors have run wild about Cravens and USC.

Do the Trojans lead for him?

Who Is Su'a Cravens?

1 of 4

From Vista Murrieta High School in California, Cravens is a 6'1", 205-pound prospect who can play DB, LB, RB and WR.

He has incredible change-of-direction skills, is very agile, athletic and speedy on the field. Cravens likely will grow into an SS/OLB type in college as his ball skills, range and instincts are suited best in those roles.

Cravens notched 100 tackles and added in 11 sacks and three picks as a junior.

Rivals.com lists Cravens as a 5-star prospect and No. 5 overall, while Scout.com also rates him a 5-star prospect and has ranked him No. 9 overall.

What Schools Are in Contention for Cravens?

Aside from USC, Cravens has a slew of offers from the nation's elite programs.

Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Stanford, Oklahoma and UCLA have all made offers.

Cravens recently told Scout.com that USC, UCLA, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Michigan and Washington are recruiting him the hardest at the moment.

Meanwhile, he also wishes to visit Arizona and Arizona State. Michigan, Ohio State, while Nebraska also could see Cravens on a visit.

So Where Does USC Stand?

Cravens grew up as a fan of USC, so he's followed USC football very closely as a kid growing up in the Southern California area.

After 5-star QB Max Browne committed to USC last week, Rivals.com recently reported that Cravens "is rumored to be leaning towards the Trojans".

Cravens was at the USC junior day earlier this year, where the Trojans informed him that they like him at LB and safety. He also told Scout.com that he's been to USC many times and he's comfortable there.

Conclusion and Prediction

4 of 4

If you go by the Rivals.com report, Cravens has USC at the top of his list right now. However, I think Cravens' recruitment will be a roller coaster.

My gut tells me that he could fall in love with a school on a visit to the likes of Michigan or Ohio State. That could really throw a monkey wrench in his plans.

However, at the end of it all, I think USC will be awfully tough to beat and Cravens' signed LOI will be faxed to Lane Kiffin next February.
