Bobby Petrino: Arkansas Coach's Review Will Be Ongoing Through the Weekend

Jessica MarieApr 7, 2012

As the college football world anxiously awaits news on whether or not Arkansas head football coach Bobby Petrino will keep his job, school athletic director Jeff Long said he will review Petrino's conduct throughout the weekend.

CollegeFootballTalk tweeted the news on Saturday:

"

According to the Associated Press' Kurt Voigt, Long only said that Petrino's review process is "ongoing" and offered no timetable for a conclusion. Long was stopped as he walked out of the Broyles Athletic Center on Saturday morning.

Petrino is in hot water after lying about the details of a motorcycle crash earlier this week that left him with bruised ribs, broken vertebrae and an ugly neck brace. Originally, he told reporters that he was alone during the crash, but further investigations revealed that he was accompanied by 25-year-old university employee Jessica Dorrell, whom Petrino recently hired.

In addition to failing to disclose these details to reporters, Petrino also failed to disclose some of them to Long. Petrino was placed on administrative leave on Thursday after a police report revealed the additional details about Dorrell.

According to the AP, Petrino disclosed a "previous inappropriate relationship."

What It Means

Petrino's status as head coach remains up in the air. There seems to be substantial public pressure to fire him—other college coaches such as Jim Tressel and Bruce Pearl, who lied to their higher-ups, faced similar fates—but there's been no decision yet.

What Comes Next

A big decision is coming for an Arkansas program that has been incredibly successful under Petrino. The Razorbacks finished 11-2 last season, which included a Cotton Bowl win over Kansas State.

Petrino was hired by the Razorbacks on Dec. 11, 2007 and signed a new seven-year contract in December 2010 worth an average of $3.53 million per year. He's 34-17 in four seasons at Arkansas and 21-5 over the last two.
