Predicting Steve Nash's Top Landing Spots This Summer

Danny DukkerJun 7, 2018

Even though Steve Nash is 38 years old and next year will be his 17th season in the NBA, he is still a sought after free agent for multiple powerhouse teams.

He is a one-of-a-kind point guard. There has not been anyone else like him in NBA history, and there are no similar young players on the horizon (possible exception Ricky Rubio).

Many teams will offer him good deals should he decide to test the market, but these teams are some of the ones that will be the most tempting.

Phoenix Suns

1 of 5

Steve Nash has spent 10 seasons in Phoenix and was originally drafted by them way back in 1996.

He is one of the few truly loyal players in the league and he might decide to stay and retire as a member of the Suns.

He has been one of the only bright spots on this team since Amar'e Stoudemire left and has managed to lead the team to a winning record despite mediocre talent surrounding him.

Nash has no reason to stay other than loyalty, and since the current measure of greatness is in rings, he might choose to leave and pursue one somewhere else.

The only way I see him staying is if multiple free agents are signed and if the draft pick is a good one.

New York Knicks

2 of 5

During the past offseason, the New York Knicks were one of the teams said to be the most interested in acquiring Steve Nash.

Since the duo of Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire met up in the Big Apple, they have somewhat disappointed the fans.

They are currently the 8th seed in the East after finishing the 6th seed last year.

Many believe the problem lies in their point guard spot and that they need someone who can spread the ball and take advantage of the many weapons on this team.

With Melo, Stat, and JR Smith all being on the team, the fact that they are 13th in the league in scoring is very troubling.

Nash could help solve the offensive problems by becoming the dominant ball handler, distributing the ball better and exploiting the talent there.

It will be scary to think what his assist numbers would become considering he currently averages just above 11 with the Suns.

Orlando Magic

3 of 5

The purpose of this move would be to unite Dwight Howard with Steve Nash.

Nash was amazing when he had Stoudemire on the team, and it is just great to think what he could do with a superior athlete in Dwight.

The pick and roll would be their game and alley oops from Orlando would flood SportsCenter.

However, Nash would also be working with some solid shooters in Ryan Anderson, J.J. Redick and Hedo Turkoglu.

This team would put on a great offensive display night in and night out and would instantly become a championship contender.

With Howard agreeing to stay another year and Nash possibly only playing for two more, Orlando should be high up his list because this team could win it all.

Los Angeles Lakers

Could Steve Nash possibly choose to go to a team that his been one of his biggest rivals during his days in Phoenix?

I don't know, but this is a team Nash could definitely give a serious consideration.

The combination of Nash, Bryant, Gasol and Bynum would be absolutely terrifying and this team could be unstoppable.

This would also give Nash an opportunity to play for one of the biggest fanbases in the country and give him the type of attention he hasn't seen since his MVP days.

The fans in LA would immediately fall in love with Nash and the wins will pile up.

Again, this is the "win now" option for Nash, and if he really wants a championship this might be the one of the few teams to give it to him.

Miami Heat

5 of 5

This is the one everyone wants to talk about and understandably so.

The Miami Heat are no doubt the favorites to land Steve Nash, and from his point of view there is hard to find a flaw in South Beach.

The lineup of Steve Nash, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Joel Anthony could make a case for the best lineup in NBA history.

Combine that with Shane Battier, Mike Miller, James Jones and Chalmers off the bench and this team makes a case for best of all time.

The Heat have experienced great criticism in both the point guard spots and their center spots and with Nash, they get one of the best offensive guards in the game and become that much better.

They would have a true dominant ball handler that allows both Wade and James to focus more on scoring and spreading the floor, which would help the Heat with some of their offensive recklessness.

As of this year the Heat are among the favorites to make it to the Finals, but with Nash they would become instant favorites to win it all with very few doubters.

If Nash does decide to test the free agency market, I predict he will go to the Miami Heat.
