2012 NFL Mock Draft: Updated Picks for Entire First Round

Zach KruseMar 31, 2012

On the last day of March, here are the updated first-round picks in our 2012 NFL mock draft:

1. Indianapolis Colts: Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

Anyone who takes Luck off the top spot is only doing so for the sake of making changes.

2. Washington Redskins: Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor (via trade with St. Louis Rams)

Think the Redskins gave up that many picks to move up and draft anything but a quarterback?

3. Minnesota Vikings: Matt Kalil, OT, USC

With Kalil plugged into the left side, the Vikings may have a surprisingly good offensive line in 2012.

4. Cleveland Browns: Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama

Will they reach for a quarterback, trade back in the first round or take Richardson, the best running back in the class?

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU

I think the Bucs privately want Richardson to fall to No. 5, but Claiborne fits in both value and need here, especially with the continuing legal issues for Aqib Talib.

6. St. Louis Rams: Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State (via trade with Washington Redskins)

Not only do the Rams secure a bunch of picks in this scenario, but they also get the man they've wanted all along.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars: Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina

An edge-rushing combination of Ingram and up-and-coming Jeremy Mincey is a good start for the Jaguars pass rush.

8. Miami Dolphins: Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M

Tannehill isn't a reach at No. 8, and the Dolphins have to figure out a future plan at the quarterback position.

9. Carolina Panthers: Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis

The Panthers have made big strides in just one year, but it's time to start securing difference-makers in the trenches.

10. Buffalo Bills: Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa

The Bills could get greedy and take another pass-rusher here, but Reiff will be a plug-and-play left tackle for the likely-to-depart Demetrius Bell.

11. Kansas City Chiefs: Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College

I think Poe would have been a great pick for Kansas City if he fell to No. 11, but Kuechly, a tackling machine at Boston College, gives them another player that can help the middle of the Chiefs defense.

12. Seattle Seahawks: Nick Perry, DE, USC

The Seahawks are a team on the rise, and adding a slippery defensive end like Perry could push their defense into the upper echelon in the NFL.

13. Arizona Cardinals: David DeCastro, G, Stanford

An offensive tackle and pass-rusher will be tempting positions to consider here, but DeCastro is arguably the best guard prospect we've seen since Steve Hutchinson.

14. Dallas Cowboys: Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina

A fast riser, Gilmore gives the Cowboys much-needed depth and talent in the secondary.

15. Philadelphia Eagles: Quinton Coples, DL, North Carolina

In Coples, the Eagles get a versatile defensive lineman who can be a factor rushing the passer from both the inside and out.

16. New York Jets: Courtney Upshaw, OLB, Alabama

If Rex Ryan has any say in that draft room, Upshaw won't last past the Jets' pick.

17. Cincinnati Bengals: Cordy Glenn, G, Georgia

It won't be a sexy pick, but Glenn fills a need and represents good value, especially given his ability to play many positions along the offensive line.

18. San Diego Chargers: Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford

Jared Gaither was re-signed to be the team's left tackle, but Martin fills a big hole on the right side of the Chargers' offensive line.

19. Chicago Bears: Whitney Mercilus, DE, Illinois

The Bears have added offensive pieces via free agency, so it makes sense for GM Phil Emery's first ever draft pick to be a potentially dominant pass-rusher to place opposite Julius Peppers.

20. Tennessee Titans: Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin

After striking out on a free-agent center this offseason, the Titans can add the top player in the 2012 class at the position here.

21. Cincinnati Bengals: Lamar Miller, RB, Miami

The Bengals will have a fast, explosive offense with the addition of Miller to the backfield.

22. Cleveland Browns: Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame

If Floyd falls this far, the Browns shouldn't hesitate to make him the pick at No. 22 overall.

23. Detroit Lions: Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama

Cornerback depth is an issue in Detroit after Eric Wright bolted in free agency.

24. Pittsburgh Steelers: Dont'a Hightower, ILB, Alabama

Hightower is a natural replacement for what the Steelers received from James Farrior for many years.

25. Denver Broncos: Devon Still, DT, Penn State

The Broncos are a player or two away from taking the next step defensively, and interior defensive line is still one hole.

26. Houston Texans: Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor

Wright can win in the slot and make plays vertically, which would give the Texans another scary element to their already stacked offense.

27. New England Patriots: Mark Barron, S, Alabama

One of the draft's true plug-and-play picks, Barron will be a calming presence at the back end of the Patriots secondary right away.

28. Green Bay Packers: Fletcher Cox, DL, Mississippi State

Green Bay would love an outside linebacker here, but there's no value in reaching for one when so many talented defensive linemen remain on the board.

29. Baltimore Ravens: Andre Branch, OLB, Clemson

Rush linebacker isn't a need in Baltimore, but the Ravens appreciate as much as any team the value in bringing in people to rush the quarterback.

30. San Francisco 49ers: Michael Brockers, DT, LSU

Given the additions made during free agency on the offensive side of the ball, the 49ers can afford to take Brockers, an early first-round talent who is still raw and needs developing, at No. 30.

31. New England Patriots: Shea McClellin, OLB, Boise State

One of the fastest rising prospects in the draft, McClellin is the perfect Patriots pick.

32. New York Giants: Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State

With no value at middle linebacker available, Adams makes a lot of sense at the end of the first round.
