NBA Free Agency 2012: 10 Stars We'd Love to See Deron Williams Ball with
According to The New York Daily News , Deron Williams will leave the New Jersey Nets and weigh his options in free agency.
"It's not monkey see, monkey do," Williams said at the Nets' shootaround in advance of Friday's game against the Magic.
While this may break the hearts of many Nets fans, basketball enthusiasts can't help but salivate at the potential pairings.
For instance, imagine if Deron Williams played with...well, click ahead and you'll see.
10. LaMarcus Aldridge: Portland Trail Blazers
1 of 10LaMarcus Aldridge made his first All-Star Game in 2012 after having a breakout season in 2011.
He showed that he could be a franchise player without Brandon Roy's presence last year, and a year later, he's the only thing keeping the disgruntled Blazers in playoff contention.
Now, imagine if he had an elite-level point guard to run the pick-and-roll with.
We saw what Deron Williams was able to do with Carlos Boozer at his disposal. We've also seen Boozer hit a decline without Williams there to feed him the ball.
With Aldridge and Williams together, the Portland Trail Blazers could win big.
9. Monta Ellis: Milwaukee Bucks
2 of 10Considering Brandon Jennings is "doing his homework" on big-market teams that he could potentially play for, it might be time to abandon Project Jennings and place Deron Williams on the floor with their new star.
Monta Ellis is an elite scoring option with awe-inspiring athleticism.
Pairing him with Deron Williams would produce points, highlights and wins for Milwaukee as they'd instantly emerge as a contender in the East.
8. Dwyane Wade: Miami Heat
3 of 10If Dwyane Wade can win an NBA championship with an aging Gary Payton, I'd love to see what he could do with Deron Williams in his prime.
While many would rather see Williams with a big man, the backcourt pairing of Wade and Williams would be as unstoppable as any in the NBA.
After all, who wouldn't want the second-best (arguable) shooting guard with the second-best (arguable) point guard?
7. Amar'e Stoudemire: New York Knicks
4 of 10If you liked Steve Nash and Amar'e Stoudemire coming together, you'd love to see Amar'e and Deron Williams.
After all, if Deron Williams can put up 57 points on his own, he can draw a defender with a viable option alongside him.
As for those Jeremy Lin lovers who would hate to see him replaced, the man they call Linsanity has an expiring contract. Should he take a deal from somewhere else, the need for a point guard would be filled perfectly by D-Will.
Besides, who wouldn't want to see the Knicks-Brooklyn rivalry heightened by an act of mutiny?
6. Josh Smith: Atlanta Hawks
5 of 10The financial aspects of this deal would make it tough, but considering Kirk Hinrich's $47.5 million contract is set to expire, don't call it impossible.
With that being said, forget about the chances and think about the potential pick-and-roll possibilities between Williams and Josh Smith. More specifically, the alley-oops, pick-and-pops and legitimate chance of a Hawks title victory.
5. Dirk Nowitzki: Dallas Mavericks
6 of 10Who wouldn't want to see the most versatile big man in professional basketball play alongside a great point guard in his prime?
The one-two punch of Dirk Nowitzki and Deron Williams wouldn't produce the highlight-reel plays that the other names on this list are capable of.
What they would do, however, is become the favorite to win an NBA championship, combine for greater than 50 points a night and lead to some of the best clutch basketball you've ever seen.
4. Kobe Bryant: Los Angeles Lakers
7 of 10Ramon Sessions is an underrated point guard with the potential to one day make an All-Star team. To say that he's better than Deron Williams, however, would be absurd.
The Lakers would need to make some major moves in terms of distribution of wealth in order to acquire D-Will. Seeing as they just saved millions in trading away Derek Fisher and Luke Walton, however, don't think they're unprepared to do so.
If you hear that the Lakers have amnestied Metta World Peace, be prepared for the best backcourt in professional basketball to come together. Also, be prepared for Kobe's bid to top Jordan's six rings to come to fruition.
3. Lob City
8 of 10Before you write this off as impossible, think about what the Los Angeles Clippers were working with before trading for Nick Young.
Rather than signing a true 2, the Clippers were going with a lineup that saw Chris Paul and Chauncey Billups start on a nightly basis. That's two point guards.
In watching the Clippers and Nets, we've seen both Chris Paul and Deron Williams work without the basketball. The results have been extraordinary, especially in Williams' case, which beckons the question...
Could we see the NBA's top two point guards on the same team in 2013?
I'm not sure we will, but we'd sure love to see it.
2. LeBron James: Miami Heat
9 of 10If you can't tell, I'm insinuating that Chris Bosh won't be apart of this team. As much as I'd like to see him stay, he wouldn't if the Heat pulled the trigger on Williams.
Don't be shocked if they do.
While LeBron James is an excellent facilitator in his own right, the pairing of Deron Williams with James and Wade would make one of the most unstoppable trios in NBA history.
Between the highlight-reel plays, championship contention and arrival of another closer, the drama and glory would be at an all-time high in Miami
1. Dwight Howard: Orlando Magic
10 of 10We all expected to see this happen in New Jersey. Oddly enough, we could now see it in Orlando.
After Dwight Howard decided he would stay in Orlando for the 2013 NBA season, the chances of a Williams-Howard connection in Brooklyn became temporarily impossible. Fortunately for Magic fans, Williams will be testing the free-agent market.
The combination of Williams and Howard would not only lead to some of the prettiest alley-oops you've ever seen, but also a serious run at an NBA title.
