Tyron Smith Is Moving to from Right to Left Tackle for Dallas Cowboys
Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett spoke at a news conference at the NFL Scouting Combine, proclaiming that Doug Free will play right tackle and Tyron Smith will play on the left side. This switch will take place as soon as the players return to camp.
Although the Cowboys offensive line played inconsistently throughout the 2011 season, it was evident that Smith was the better of the two tackles. Smith was the Cowboys’ first-round draft selection last year and started all 16 games.
"The versatility Tyron had coming out was something we were really attracted to. We felt like he had the physical traits to play left tackle. Same thing with Doug Free. We felt like he could play either side.

Garrett went on to say that the switch is by no means permanent, but that it is the starting point when they get back to playing football.
This is not a huge blow to Free, as he is ranked as the 12th best left tackle in the NFL last year.
This news doesn’t come as a surprise to most fans, though. Smith is constantly being praised by announcers, coaches and analyst alike. Playing on the left side means he’ll face some of the best pass-rushers in the league.
Expect another shakeup on the offensive line during the offseason, as the Cowboys may look to upgrade at interior lineman. But for now, this seems like the first logical step to helping the ‘Boys offense.
