TNA Wrestling: Jesse Sorensen's Broken Neck Clouds a Bright Future

Jun 1, 2018

TNA Wrestling superstar Jesse Sorensen was fighting Zema Ion in an excellent match of highly athletic competitors when things went terribly wrong.

Ion was on the offensive and jumped onto the rope while a waiting Sorensen stood on the floor outside the ring. After spring boarding off the ropes and performing a back flip, Xion’s knee came crashing down on the head of Sorensen who was trying to catch him.

As you can see in the video, Sorensen is knocked out immediately and lands right on his head and neck. When Sorensen’s buddy hits the floor, he is completely limp and the referee knows right away to get the match over.

You could tell it was serious when Sorensen tried to get up and couldn’t, which resulted in the “X” signal from the referee, indicated that something is seriously wrong.

TNA president Dixie Carter issued a statement on Sorensen’s health:

"

Jesse Sorensen has sustained a C1 vertebrae fracture with spinal cord edema. He is slowly regaining feeling and movement in his arms and legs. He wants to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. Once we speak to the neurosurgeon, we will pass on more details.

"

While many fans of TNA have crushed the company for pushing the wrong people, they were doing justice Sorensen by giving him solid matches and letting him work his way up. We can’t forget, this kid is only 22 years old.

That bright future just got a little cloudier. We have seen many stars in wrestling break their neck and come back, but for many it took a long time and eventually became their long-term down fall. Edge comes to mind as one of the most recent.

Sorensen has been proving that he is one of the best in the business week in and week out for TNA, so the hope is that he will continue to use that stellar work ethic to pull through this and make a full recovery.

Sorensen is a great, young wrestler and given the time to heal, he will be back better than ever.
