7 Things to Look out for in the English Premier League This Weekend
We're set for another brilliant weekend in the English Premier League.
Right now we're being treated to great football as England's top tier proves it is still one of the most entertaining and competitive leagues in the world.
We've got a number of games to look forward to with some interesting clashes coming up. The Premier League has proven difficult to predict results-wise this season and this weekend looks different.
Sunderland, Newcastle and Liverpool are all capable of causing a bit of an upset, so it should make for interesting viewing.
Here are seven things to look out whilst checking out the action this weekend. Enjoy the slideshow!
Old Trafford 'Welcomes' Luis Suarez
1 of 7As if this fixture isn't spicy enough already.
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez's return from suspension has come just in time for a visit to Old Trafford—the stomping ground of Patrice Evra.
In case you've been living under a rock for the last two months, here's what all the fuss is about.
The atmosphere will represent a chorus of boos every time he touches the ball and on the occasion he tussles for the ball with the Manchester United's left-back, spectators will be keeping their eyes peeled for any fireworks.
It'll be a far cry from Liverpool's dull 0-0 draw against Tottenham—that's for sure.
Table-Toppers Face Tough Test
2 of 7Every Aston Villa fan in the world is breathing a sigh of relief. The Ivory Coast are still in the African Cup of Nations and Yaya Toure is nowhere near a plane home.
Still, can Aston Villa upset the odds? On face value, the Midlands side are in for thrashing. You could have said that last year though, but Darren Bent scored a debut goal to secure a 1-0 win for his side.
This fixture is typically won by the home side each time, but with Manchester City in form and on top of the table, they may just buck the trend against a flailing Villa side.
Demba and Demba
3 of 7There's something about Newcastle United, their stadium and their fans that brings the best out of a good striker.
How many quality No. 9's have Newcastle had in the past? The shirt is famous for a reason and even Andy Carroll managed to score in it.
Papiss Demba Cisse smashed in the winner for his new club against Aston Villa on Sunday, introducing himself to the Premier League in style.
The partnership between the two Dembas (Ba and Cisse) is certainly one to watch. Aston Villa's mistake-ridden defence was an easy baptism to life in England. Tottenham Hotspur present a much sterner test this weekend and we'll see how the Senegalese pair fare.
Even Stevens
4 of 7Swansea City host Norwich City this weekend in what would have been considered a relegation battle—at least at the start of the season, anyway.
The truth is both teams have excelled under managers Brendan Rodgers and Paul Lambert, respectively. Both teams are rightly safe from the drop this season but this will be an entertaining game.
Swansea play careful, patient football. Norwich can play that game too but they know how to play route-one football as well.
The contrast of styles will be intriguing to watch as we witness what could well be the two most closely matched teams in the league go head to head.
The Debut of Pavel Pogrebnyak?
5 of 7Having sold Bobby Zamora to Queens Park Rangers on transfer deadline day, Martin Jol's Fulham picked up Pavel Pogrebnyak as his replacement.
The need for the towering Russian was somewhat evident during the Cottagers' 3-0 defeat at Manchester City last weekend.
Fulham failed to maintain any sustained pressure on City and thus never really threatened to score. They couldn't hold the ball up and Clint Dempsey's remarkable talents were wasted in that game.
If Pogrebnyak is ready for the game, Jol should waste no time in throwing him in at the deep end. It will free Moussa Dembele and Dempsey to drift in and out of the line and cause Stoke City plenty of damage.
If QPR Lose, Are They in Serious Trouble?
6 of 7Queens Park Rangers face a very important clash at the bottom of the table on Saturday when they travel to Ewood Park to face Blackburn Rovers.
They've had a bit of a rocky start under Mark Hughes, no thanks to Djibril Cisse, but they simply have to start picking up points soon.
In the month of March, QPR face Everton, Sunderland, Arsenal and Liverpool. Following on from that they face Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea in April.
The final game of the season is Manchester City away.
Alarm bells, anyone?
O'Neill to Rock Arsenal's Boat...Again?
7 of 7Martin O'Neill is pretty decent against Arsene Wenger's sides.
He understands how they play and organises his players well to ruin the ebb and flow of the game.
The Ulsterman currently has Sunderland winning games, something Steve Bruce just couldn't quite do towards the end of his reign.
Arsenal are, obviously, on a massive high; 7-1 is a pretty good score. Doesn't matter who you play—scoring seven goals is an incredible feat.
The visit to the Stadium of Light will be one of the toughest tests of the season so far for the French tactician and if he doesn't get it right, the romp against Blackburn will be very quickly forgotten.
