Dorial Green-Beckham: Where Missouri Ranks in SEC East with Nation's No. 1 WR
The Missouri Tigers landed Dorial Green-Beckham Wednesday and having the best recruit in the country on their roster definitely helps their status in their first year in the Southeastern Conference.
Ranked as the nation's No. 1 wide receiver and No. 1 overall player by Rivals and Scout, Green-Beckham is sure to be a star for Missouri.
Listed at 6'6", 220 pounds, this wide receiver will make an immediate impact for the Tigers, which gives them a boost in the 2012 SEC rankings.
The Tigers will play in the SEC East, and the addition of Green-Beckham now puts them in the discussion for winning what was widely considered just a good division.
Since the SEC West was out-of-this-world good, the SEC East took a back seat with Alabama, LSU and Arkansas dominating so much.
In 2012, it should be fairly similar, but the SEC East does get better with Green-Beckham's decision.
With that said, here are my early rankings for the SEC East next season.
1. Georgia Bulldogs
Georgia brings back 10 starters from a defense that ranked No. 3 in the country. Plus, the offense returns QB Aaron Murray and brings in highly touted recruit, Keith Marshall.
The running game will be better next season, and the wide receivers group is one of the deepest in not only the SEC, but also the country.
The Bulldogs are the early favorites in the SEC East, and it's mainly because the entire team will continue to get better all around.
2. South Carolina Gamecocks
Losing wide receiver Alshon Jeffery and cornerback Stephon Gilmore really hurts, but Marcus Lattimore will be back, and he will keep South Carolina in contention.
The schedule is brutal, but there's no denying the Gamecocks are going to be a good team. Connor Shaw will get better, but he's the big reason South Carolina isn't No. 1. Murray is a much better QB, which puts the Bulldogs at the top spot.
What's more, the Gamecocks have to replace four defensive starters in addition to Gilmore, and they're working with a new defensive coordinator. Having Jadeveon Clowney will help, but 2012 will be a true test of the recent recruits Steve Spurrier has brought in.
3. Missouri Tigers
Getting Green-Beckham vaults the Tigers to the third spot in the SEC East. Playing their first season in the SEC, the Tigers will rely on him to help win big games.
Missouri will no doubt have a tough time adjusting to SEC style of play, but the Tigers definitely have the talent to compete. Quarterback James Franklin is going to tremendously improve with Green-Beckham on his side, and running back Henry Josey is one of the bright young stars rising up in the college football world.
The defense will be the sore spot for the Tigers in 2012, as the talent in the SEC is much better than the Big 12. However, the Tigers are going to be able to put points on the board. Having Green-Beckham will help Missouri spread the ball and open the field much more, resulting in big plays and lots of points.
Rounding out my top five I have the Florida Gators and Tennessee Volunteers. Although, the Vanderbilt Commodores are certainly a team worth watching next year.
