National Signing Day 2012: Top 25 Teams Whose Classes Won't Stack Up
National signing day is just hours away from kicking off, and there are several teams that will be lucky enough to land some top prospects that will impact their team for the next few years. The majority of those teams are highly respected and head into next year with national championship hopes.
And then there are the teams that finished in the final AP Top 25 that don't have a good recruiting class at all. They also don't expect to land any top recruits on national signing day and will likely head into next year not as talented as the teams they end up competing against.
Here are a few teams that are struggling in the recruiting process and won't exactly hit it off on national singing day either.
Houston
1 of 3Houston is one of those teams that got lucky the last few years because they had a great quarterback in Case Keenum. Before he came along, the Cougars had only one double-digit winning season since 1990. Now he's gone, along with their starting running backs and wide receivers that helped create one of the top offenses a season ago.
This recruiting class really isn't going to help them climb back in the rankings either, as there aren't any 4-star or 5-star players anywhere. And there aren't any top players that are even considering becoming a Cougar.
The bright side is that Keenum was a 2-star player when he stepped on campus. Maybe Houston can find more of that luck once again.
Boise State
2 of 3If there is any team that's going to fall off from next season, it's going to be the Boise State Broncos. This team was loaded with seniors that are no longer on the roster heading into next year. That includes star quarterback Kellen Moore, running back Doug Martin, key offensive linemen and eight defensive players.
The Broncos do have a class that includes 22 players, but none are exactly worth mentioning. Once again, none are 4-star or 5-star players and not one player that really sticks out in this class. And there aren't any top players that are even considering becoming a Bronco.
Chris Petersen has done a fabulous job with sub-par talent his whole career, but this will be by far his biggest challenge.
Kansas State
3 of 3If you see what head coach Bill Snyder had to work with, you'd have voted for him as well to be the coach of the year. He has far less talent than the teams he competed against, but yet his team finished with a 10-2 record.
There are a lot of returning players from a year ago, but this recruiting class surely isn't helping the future of the Wildcats. This is a class that consists of 15 players, and only five of those players have more than two stars next to their name. None are 4-star or 5-star players. This isn't just one of the worst classes in the Big 12 conference, it's one of the worst in the country.
There is a decent running back in Timothy Wright, who's considering Kansas State, but he will likely end up with Texas A&M. Coach Snyder will have to pull off another miracle if the Wildcats expect to see any more success.
