Australian Open 2012 Results: Djokovic Win over Murray Sets Dream Final
After an incredible victory over Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic set a dream final in the Australian Open.
Against Rafael Nadal.
The two top players in the world will clash once again, and it's the matchup everyone has been hoping for.
After nearly five hours, Djokovic finally eliminated Murray. The match was an instant classic, and it showed how great Djokovic truly is.
After going down two sets to one, Djokovic only needed 25 minutes to win the fourth set (6-1), before finally closing the match out in the fifth. When Djokovic really needed to come up big, he did so time after time, proving why he's the No. 1 player in the world.
Murray looked very good, and he nearly came back to steal the fifth set. Unfortunately, he couldn't overcome Djoker, no matter how hard he tried.
Djokovic is now looking to win his third straight Grand Slam, as well as his third Australian Open title.
There is only one man standing in his way and that's Rafael Nadal.
Djokovic described Nadal as one of the best players ever, and he couldn't be more right.
Nadal is hoping to add to his 10 Grand Slams by securing his second Australian Open title. He is playing extremely good tennis right now and he could potentially return to the No. 1 spot soon.
In a tough semifinal match, he took care of Roger Federer, and now he must take out another great player to win it all.
Even though their career head-to-head record is pretty even (Djokovic: 13 wins, Nadal: 16), it has been a two-part rivalry.
In their first 18 matches, Nadal won 14 of them. Since then (May 2009), Djoker has won nine of their 11 matches, which gives him the upper-hand heading into the match.
With that said, once the match starts, anything can happen. Djokovic has played well, but he has been battling fatigue and allergies, which could catch up to him in the final.
Nadal has looked good in the tournament, but he has struggled to beat Djokovic as of late.
One of these men must overcome their shortcomings to win this Grand Slam. Either man has the ability to win.
Regardless, with Djokovic hoping to solidify himself as the greatest in the world and Nadal trying to prove that he's the greatest of this generation, this match will be spectacular.
Whatever the outcome, the true winners are the fans.
