Will Blue Chip CB Armani Reeves Land at Michigan or Ohio State?

Randy ChambersJun 7, 2018

It's one of the greatest rivalries in sports, Michigan-Ohio State. So when a recruit is torn between both of those schools, it makes things that much more interesting. The game every season is what gives one of these teams bragging rights for a year, but stealing a top prospect from the other is a small victory in itself.

In this case, the top prospect is Armani Reeves and he's one of the best cornerbacks in this class. Originally committed to Penn State, he quickly backed out once the sex scandal shocked the university and the rest of the college football world.

Reeves isn't the biggest player at 5'11", 185 pounds, but he is a competitor on the football field and a lock down corner. He also isn't afraid to get his hands dirty in run support and is a solid tackler. He's the type of player that could make an immediate impact if needed, for whichever team he decides to give his commitment to.

So which school is it going to be, Michigan or Ohio State?

This is really a tricky question because he hasn't really let out many hints. He's keeping everything close to the vest and giving us nothing to really go off of. With this one, you kind of have to look at which school has the most advantages and predict that's the school that will land him.

Regardless of which school he goes with, he'll see quality minutes rather quickly because he's just that talented. You don't get a player of his caliber on keep him on the bench for a year or two. Both are fantastic programs, with great coaches and appear to be on the rise. They will both be competing for BCS National Championships in no time.

Although Ohio State does have a major advantage in Camren Williams, who was also a Penn State commit and a former high school teammate of Reeves. These players are very close and you'd have to think since they went to Penn State together, they would stay together in Ohio State.

But with that said, that's really the only advantage either team has over the other. Here's what his godfather said about his possible decision and where he may end up.

"

Well, I’m not saying that there’s a date. I would say he’s going to have some time… a lot of time… this weekend to think it through. He has a pretty good game on Friday. After that I think he’ll have Saturday and Sunday to kind of think things through.  We’ll sit down over the weekend and kind of talk about the pros and cons of both situations and go from there. We’re not doing a hat; we’re not doing a press conference. Call the coach, and tell him you’re coming… then call the other coach, and tell him you’re not. It’s pretty simple. At this point the whole mystery behind pulling hats and whatever tricks you got… we’re just not really focused on that. We’re just trying to find the right school that is going to help him going forward.

"

While Ohio State may have the advantage with his former teammate, there are reports that he may be more interested in Michigan. At this point, nobody is really sure what his final decision will be and everybody is just predicting with what their gut feeling tells them.

If I had to pick, I'd say he ends up with Ohio State because I refuse to bet against Urban Meyer and what he's doing with that program. He's landed top recruit after top recruit and his track record has shown there's really no sign no slowing down.

As we approach national signing day, one of these teams will gain bragging rights over the other before we even kick off the regular season.
