New York Knicks vs. Miami Heat: LeBron James Idiotic for Comparing Teams' Woes
LeBron James has an interesting way of looking at last year's Miami Heat and this year's New York Knicks. In his infinite wisdom, he has found a way to compare the Heat's 9-8 start last year to the Knicks' 7-11 start this year.
Here is what James said about the Knicks' problems this season, and how it related to the Heat's problems last year (via the New York Post):
"It takes time, James said. It’s never going to work right overnight, and we were the prime example of that. It took us time. We were 9-8 at one point, but it took us even longer after that to become a good team, to know each other, to learn each other, what works for each other, what don’t work.
I think they’re going through the same thing right now but people want results now. That’s just the league and the world we live in.
"
The statement itself is true, it does take time for teams to find their niche and play up to their full potential.
However, drawing comparisons between the Heat and Knicks is pointless. James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh acted like rock stars when they signed with Miami. They were bragging about how many championships they were going to win before the season even started.
They were being referred to as a Dream Team. There are very few teams that can match the kind of hype and publicity that the Heat got when they were first put together.
The Knicks don't have any real hype behind them. They made the trade last year to acquire Carmelo Anthony. He was paired alongside Amar'e Stoudemire, but no one was singing their praises or calling them title contenders.
This season, their only significant addition was Tyson Chandler. He is a nice player, but not someone that you think of as a star who can carry a team to a championship.
When the Heat were struggling last year, everyone panicked. We all wondered if this team was doomed to a season of mediocrity, and why the Big Three was a disgrace. They would up turning things around before losing to the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals.
The Knicks are not going to grab headlines for struggling. They were supposed to be a .500 team—possibly better—and are sitting at 7-11 right now.
James knows that there is no real comparison between the Heat and Knicks, yet he thought it would be comforting to make the analogy. It just goes to show that he doesn't follow the league as much as he should.
