Ohio State Recruiting 2012: The Latest on the Buckeyes' Top 5 Targets

Randy ChambersJan 24, 2012

Ever since the Ohio State Buckeyes hired Urban Meyer as the head coach, the recruiting class has gone through the roof. They are landing top prospect after top prospect it seems. Although it's never wise to settle for what you have, you always want to go out and land as many top prospects as possible.

There are plenty of great players still out there, and many of them have the Buckeyes on their list of possible schools to which they'd like to commit. As we get closer and closer to National Signing Day, these final days leading up to it may be the most crucial for these programs.

Here are the latest updates for the top five targets that Ohio State is after.

S Demetrious Cox

1 of 5

Demetrious Cox is one of the top safeties in this year's class and has great size at 6'1", 185 pounds and makes plays on the football with his great instincts.

Schools he's interested in include Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh and Wisconsin. He recently made his visit to Ohio State. Here are a few things he said about it:

"

"I'll decide my final official visit this week," stated Cox. "Coach Meyer made it clear to me that he would save a spot for me until I decide. He just asked me to let him know if I decide that I don't want to come to Ohio State, so he can open up that scholarship offer."

"

He will make his decision on National Signing Day and the Buckeyes are likely the front runner for his services.

CB Armani Reeves

2 of 5

Armani Reeves had offers from nearly every top school and has cut his list down to just Michigan and Ohio State. One team will be blessed with one of the top cornerbacks committing to their program, and the other team will envy that he went to their rival.

Here are a few things he's said about both programs:

"

"Ohio State has the exact major I want," Reeves said. "And the coaches are top notch."

"Michigan is a great school. Plus playing for Mattison would be a treat, he knows what it takes to be successful."

"

A date hasn't been mentioned on when he will make his decision, but with National Signing Day quickly approaching, you can expect one sooner than later.

CB/WR Davonte Neal

3 of 5

Davonte Neal is a versatile player that could play either cornerback or wide receiver. Although, with his speed and great route-running, he'll likely end up on the offensive side of the ball.

He recently had his visit with the Buckeyes and they're in the running along with schools like Arizona, Arkansas, North Carolina and Notre Dame.

Expect him to make his decision after National Signing Day, likely on February 10.

WR Stefon Diggs

4 of 5

Stefon Diggs is that speedster wide receiver that could become the Buckeyes version of Percy Harvin, if he ends up committing. He doesn't exactly have Ohio State on his list right now, but is scheduled for a visit this weekend.

Schools like Auburn and Florida remain the favorites for his services, but I would not bet against Urban Meyer and company once they get the opportunity to talk to him.

Things could change very quickly with this young man, so stay tuned.

OT Jordan Diamond

5 of 5

Jordan Diamond is a huge offensive lineman at 6'6", 290 pounds. He plays the game with a ton of passion and a very aggressive style. He's somebody the Buckeyes have been pushing hard for and he made his official visit back in early December.

Here are a few things he said about head coach Urban Meyer:

"

"It went well," Diamond said of their conversation. "I was actually pretty happy to talk to him. I was really concerned about the coaching staff there, but he said everything is definitely solid. He said he was watching my film, and they still like me."

"

His final teams include Michigan, Ohio State, Auburn, Wisconsin and Arkansas. He'll likely make his decision February 3.
