The Los Angeles Lakers Look Old and Don't Have Any Fight Left in Them
After the recent three game skid that saw the Los Angeles Lakers drop to 10-8 on the season, it begs us to ask one question.
Where would this team be without four consecutive 40-plus point outbursts from Kobe Bryant?
Things could be much worse in Lakerland.
Much worse.
One thing for sure is that the compressed schedule has had an effect on the Lakers. They look old and at times have no fight in them. It's been a challenge to rebound from one game to a next in such a quick fashion.
That was a concern coming into the season and it's proving to be something worth keeping an eye on for the remainder of the season.
In any game that the Lakers trail in, if Bryant doesn't put this team on his back and carry them, it often looks like the Lakers have very little chance.
Sure there are plenty of problems that could be fixed on this team, including finding a quality point guard, but the main issue is production up an down the roster.
They miss the triangle offense and other than Bryant, Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol, the Lakers don't have another guy averaging double figures.
It's very tough to compete consistently when there are no other options that can step up when your stars aren't having good nights.
The lack of a good offseason is starting to haunt the Lakers as well.
Look at the new additions to this team in Josh McRoberts, Jason Kapono, Troy Murphy, Darius Morris and Andrew Goudelock.
The five new faces have combined to average 14.5 points, 10.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game.
Those five potentially equal one Lamar Odom.
Not one of those guys is averaging more than 3.7 points per game.
The only guy with young legs that can consistently turn things around on a back-to-back basis is Bynum.
There are problems on this team, but the main one could be the age up and down the Lakers roster.
This team simply looks old on a nightly basis and that's not a good formula to make a run at a championship.
