Biggest Rag Doll from Every NBA Team

Matt JonesJun 7, 2018

Every team has a rag doll.

You know, that one player that, no matter what he does, just gets beat up over and over again.

This abuse can come in many forms and is not limited to only getting pushed around on the basketball court.

Maybe it is the player who gets hammered in the media, or the one that is so scrutinized by fans that he is the scapegoat for everything that goes wrong with the team.

Some of these players don't deserve the rag-doll status they have earned, and some of these have brought things upon themselves.

The following is a list of each team's biggest rag doll, for a variety of different reasons.

Marvin Williams, Atlanta Hawks

1 of 30

No matter what he does at this point in his career, Marvin Williams will always be remembered for being drafted by the Atlanta Hawks with Deron Williams and Chris Paul still on the board.

Paul has gone on to become one of the best point guards in the NBA, and Deron Williams a two-time All-Star.

Fans of the Atlanta Hawks are still waiting for Marvin Williams to play anywhere close to the potential that he had coming out of college.

To say that his professional career has been a disappointment would be an understatement. Williams gets beaten up for his lack of performance on a regular basis.

Rajon Rondo, Boston Celtics

2 of 30

As one of the best little guys in the NBA, Rajon Rondo is fearless to drive into the lane and play the game where the big men roam.

The downside of this is that he is usually beat up, pushed around and knocked over by the forwards and centers who don't want to share the paint.

As a result, Rondo spends a lot of time falling to the floor during games.

He has dealt with several injuries during his career, but always seems to bounce back quickly.

Due to the abuse, Rondo wears pretty thick elbow pads for protection.

Rondo has missed the Boston Celtics' last three games with his current wrist injury.

Kemba Walker, Charlotte Bobcats

3 of 30

Maybe it is difficult to find the biggest rag doll on the Charlotte Bobcats because the whole team has a bad reputation and gets beaten up season after season.

Perhaps Kemba Walker is not yet the most beaten-up player on the team, but he will be.

The 6'1" point guard is starting to find out what life in the NBA means as he is surely getting a nice welcome from the big men who seem like they are twice his size.

To make it in this league, Walker will have to take a lesson from other tough point guards in how to survive in the paint and be tough enough to play in the NBA for years to come.

Carlos Boozer, Chicago Bulls

4 of 30

When Carlos Boozer joined the Utah Jazz, fans thought they were getting a quality power forward who wanted to be there.

Boozer, who left Cleveland amid controversy that he lied his way out of a contract, is known more for his time in Utah for missing games with seemingly insignificant injuries.

In his most infamous moment, Boozer sat out a late-season game for the Jazz that if they would have won would have led to better playoff positioning.

He has continued his ways in Chicago as he has missed time with interesting injuries and has not played like the highest-paid player on the team.

Boozer is not only beaten up with injuries, he is also scrutinized and beaten up by fans.

Antawn Jamison, Cleveland Cavaliers

5 of 30

Throughout his long career, Antawn Jamison has not been able to catch a break.

Each time that Jamison has been traded he has gone to play for a bad team.

In 2010 when he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, he thought he had a good thing going with the opportunity to play alongside LeBron James, but with James leaving, Jamison only got to rebuild once again.

Even though he has been an All-Star twice, Jamison has been beaten up throughout his career in terms of the teams he has played for.

He has had a chance to play in the playoffs six times, but has not had a real opportunity to win a championship.

Delonte West, Dallas Mavericks

6 of 30

Delonte West is the biggest rag doll on the Dallas Mavericks, and that is saying a lot since reality king Lamar Odom, who was treated poorly by the Los Angeles Lakers, plays for the team.

As a career role player, West is not the one that is highly scrutinized by the media or beaten up by the fans, he is the one that treats himself poorly.

West, who has endured a string of off-court difficulties including gun charges, skipping out on a visit to the White House and rumors of an affair with LeBron James' mother, qualifies for this category all by himself.

To his credit, he was not too proud to go out and apply for a real job during the recent NBA lockout.

Andre Miller, Denver Nuggets

7 of 30

In just over 12 seasons in the NBA, Andre Miller has been a good point guard who has helped several teams.

Unfortunately for Miller, he has not spent much more than three years with any one team, as he has been traded or signed free-agent contracts on several occasions to bounce around the league.

For Miller, things are not much better this season, as he has expressed his displeasure at coming off the bench behind Ty Lawson in Denver.

Miller may once again be on the move this season if the Nuggets want to make a trade, or as a free agent at the end of the season when his contract runs out.

Ben Gordon, Detroit Pistons

8 of 30

Ben Gordon has been the subject of criticism for the Detroit Pistons since he signed a big contract after playing very well for the Chicago Bulls.

Detroit fans thought that they were getting a franchise player, but instead got a guy who signed for a lot of money and then disappeared.

During his last season with the Bulls, Gordon averaged 20.7 points per game. His highest point average in Detroit has been 14.3 points per game, which he is averaging this season.

Ben Gordon is like a rag doll that was once the favorite toy to play with, but was easily forgotten when it fell to the bottom of the toy chest.

Kwame Brown, Golden State Warriors

9 of 30

It is very easy to understand why Kwame Brown has been one of the NBA's biggest rag dolls during his career.

Drafted with the first overall selection straight out of high school in 2001, Brown has done very little to justify that choice.

Considered one of the biggest draft busts in league history, Brown has struggled to stay on the court, has never been a consistent starter and has a career scoring average of 6.8 points per game.

Several teams have taken a chance on Brown, who has been pushed around the league and has been a big disappointment wherever he goes.

Hasheem Thabeet, Houston Rockets

10 of 30

Like Kwame Brown, Hasheem Thabeet is another player who was highly drafted and has performed far worse than what was expected.

After spending 12 games in the developmental league, Thabeet has been relegated to being a big man who can be thrown into trades to make salaries match.

He is making $5 million this season but is beaten up regularly by fans of the Houston Rockets and Memphis Grizzlies for his poor performance in the NBA.

Thabeet has played in two games this season for the Rockets.

Jeff Foster, Indiana Pacers

11 of 30

Jeff Foster has been beaten up on the court for the last 12 seasons he has been in the league.

Known as a hard-working big man who has no problem doing the dirty work, he gets beaten up under the basket night in and night out as he takes on the league's best big men.

Foster has never been a huge offensive threat, but he is willing to do all that he can as a solid low-post defender and and in grabbing rebounds for the Indiana Pacers.

Mo Williams, Los Angeles Clippers

12 of 30

Nearly every team in the league would have made a deal to acquire Chris Paul from the New Orleans Hornets if they could have.

When the Los Angeles Clippers picked Paul and Chauncey Billups up just before the season, it was a slap in the face of Mo Williams.

Williams, who had been traded to the Clippers less than a year ago to become the starting point guard, has now been pushed out of his starting role, one which he has had since his second season in the league with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Williams has filled in well as Paul has been down with an injury, but it will not stop the team from possibly making a trade.

In addition to being beaten up by his own team, Williams is a little guy who opponents try to push around when he gets into the lane.

Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers

13 of 30

Kobe Bryant is perhaps the NBA's ultimate rag doll.

Not only is he hammered by opposing players on nearly every play during games, he can do nothing in his personal life without it being plastered across the media for millions of people to pass judgement on.

Additionally, Bryant has played through multiple injuries throughout his career and is currently fighting through a wrist injury that probably should keep him out of games.

Even with all of the difficulties, Bryant remains one of the best players in the league and has been able to fight through all of the negative attention and treatment that he receives.

Zach Randolph, Memphis Grizzlies

14 of 30

Zach Randolph led the Memphis Grizzlies last season to a great playoff run in the Western Conference, but he is also the team's most abused player.

Having played for several teams, Randolph often does not get the respect he deserves despite putting up solid career numbers.

Off-court issues and injury problems have not helped Randolph out much, and he is currently battling a torn MCL that will sideline him for six to eight weeks.

LeBron James, Miami Heat

15 of 30

As one of the best players in the NBA, LeBron James is also one of the most battered.

Like Kobe Bryant, James gets the mistreatment both on and off the court and from all possible angles.

On the court, there are nights that all the opposition can do is to foul James in order stop him. James has been fortunate to avoid significant injuries to this point in his career.

Off the court, Jame is highly scrutinized and judged by millions of fans on a daily basis.

Surely his decision to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers to create a super team in Miami and the way that he presented it did not help him much.

Andrew Bogut, Milwaukee Bucks

16 of 30

Andrew Bogut is starting to gain a history of injuries that he does not want.

Bogut has battled through a significant elbow injury and was recently sidelined with concussion-like symptoms.

Playing the center position for the Milwaukee Bucks, Bogut takes a pounding every night underneath the basket as he fights the other centers in the Eastern Conference.

Hopefully Bogut can continue to stay healthy despite the constant contact and live up to having been selected with the first overall selection in the 2005 NBA Draft.

Darko Milicic, Minnesota Timberwolves

17 of 30

Like Kwame Brown and Hasheem Thabeet, Darko Milicic has been thrashed his whole career after the Detroit Pistons drafted him with the second pick of the NBA Draft.

Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade were the next three players selected.

Milicic has endured the criticism, since it was apparent that he was not going to play up to his potential.

He has bounced around the league and played for several teams, but will be remembered for what the Pistons missed out on more than anything he has done on the court.

Kris Humphries, New Jersey Nets

18 of 30

Unlike some players who have been a rag doll for years, Kris Humphries is new at it.

Humphries was a relatively unknown player until his short-lived marriage to Kim Kardashian blew up all over reality television.

Now he endures more non-basketball-related ridicule, as fans like to give him a hard time wherever he plays.

As public enemy number one in the NBA, Humphries will endure being the biggest negative target of the New Jersey Nets this season until all of the hype of the reality show wears off.

Chris Kaman, New Orleans Hornets

19 of 30

Chris Kaman has been teased his entire career despite playing well and being a consistent contributor to the teams he has played for.

Most of the ridicule that Kaman has endured has been related to his looks and comparisons to the GEICO Caveman.

Kaman has had a good career at the center position for the Los Angeles Clippers and New Orleans Hornets, but he does get beaten up due to the beard and formerly long hair.

Carmelo Anthony, New York Knicks

20 of 30

Carmelo Antony can't seem to catch a break.

After finally being traded to a contending team that has another superstar in Amar'e Stoudemire, the New York Knicks have not met expectations this season and it is all blamed on Anthony.

Despite scoring over 25 points per game for the Knicks, the team is struggling and Anthony needs to change the way that he helps the team as he is trying to do too much.

Being in the spotlight in his off-court reality shows with his wife has not helped him to be less scrutinized as more of what he does is under the microscope.

For Anthony, any move he makes will be second-guessed, especially now that he plays in a bigger market in New York.

Eric Maynor, Oklahoma City Thunder

21 of 30

It is tough to find a player on the Oklahoma City Thunder who fits this list well.

It seems like the biggest thing the team has had to deal with this season was an early-season shouting match between Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant.

Perhaps the player that fits here best is early in the process of becoming a rag doll and hopefully can avoid it all together.

Eric Maynor is currently sitting out this season due to needing knee surgery to repair an injury. Like other smaller point guards in the league, Maynor has the potential to be beaten up by the big guys in the paint when he returns.

J.J. Redick, Orlando Magic

22 of 30

After a record-setting career at Duke University, J.J. Redick was expected to join the Orlando Magic and continue to be the player that fans had seen at the college level.

Redick, who has also battled injury problems in his career, has been the subject of a lot of criticism from fans and the media after being selected with the 11th pick in the 2006 NBA draft.

Redick has always been one of the better players off the bench for the Magic and his numbers are improving.

He has been able to stay on the court more this season and is averaging a career-high 11.9 points per game.

Elton Brand, Philadelphia 76ers

23 of 30

Early in his career, Elton Brand played well for the Chicago Bulls, but was traded away for Tyson Chandler and Brian Skinner anyway.

As if playing for the Los Angeles Clippers had not been difficult enough for Brand, he missed nearly two full seasons due to Achilles and shoulder injuries.

The Philadelphia 76ers had high hopes for Brand after signing him to a free-agent contract in 2008, but have watched Brand battle injuries and see his statistics stay below his career averages.

This season Brand is an important part of the surprising start from the 76ers, Hopefully Brand will not get hurt anymore and will avoid injuries.

Steve Nash, Phoenix Suns

24 of 30

Steve Nash is nearly 38 years old and is in his 16th NBA season.

Nash is the team rag doll due to him constantly sacrificing his body and pushing the ball into the paint despite being one of the smallest players on the court at any given time.

Nash has always been the type of pesky guard who the forwards and centers hate as he works his way around and through them in the paint. As he frustrates these players, he gets fouled more and more and has taken a beating over his career.

Despite the treatment Nash has put up with, he shows no signs of slowing down as he is still averaging a double-double with points and assists.

Nash is like the Energizer Bunny, who keeps going and going and going.

Greg Oden, Portland Trail Blazers

25 of 30

Unfortunately for Greg Oden, he became the most fragile player on the Portland Trail Blazers before his career could really get started.

The story of Oden is just sad as he has battled serious injuries since being drafted in 2007. For his shortened career, Oden has only appeared in 82 games and fans have missed the chance to see what he could have done.

It says a lot about the potential that Oden had when he came into the league that he was drafted ahead of Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Kevin Durant.

Hopefully Oden can get onto the court as some point and salvage his career.

DeMarcus Cousins, Sacramento Kings

26 of 30

DeMarcus Cousins does not land on this list due to injuries or being fragile, but he is the most highly scrutinized and most often-blamed player on the team.

When things go well for the Sacramento Kings, which has not happened recently, Cousins is left alone.

When things go poorly, Cousins is supposedly at the root of all problems.

Cousins was recently linked to the firing of his head coach Paul Westphal, and is gaining a reputation of being a highly emotional and volatile player who is ready to snap at any moment.

As the season wears on for the Kings, there will be more difficulties for the team and more blame for Cousins.

Manu Ginobili, San Antonio Spurs

27 of 30

It only takes watching Manu Ginobili play for a few minutes to recognize how he gets assaulted on the basketball court.

Known for awkwardly driving the lane and throwing up wild shots, Ginobili has had a string of injuries throughout his career.

Opposing defenses have often not had much other option than to foul him, and he gets smacked around on a nightly basis.

Currently out with surgery to his hand, Ginobili is hopeful to return to help out the San Antonio Spurs this season.

Anthony Carter, Toronto Raptors

28 of 30

Throughout his entire career, Anthony Carter has been treated like a rag doll that, at times, no one wanted to play with.

While it is his defensive effort that has led Carter now playing in his 13th NBA season, it has been quite a journey for Carter.

After being undrafted, he has played for six different NBA teams, spent time in the CBA with the Yakima Sun Kings and played in Italy.

He has bounced around the league his entire career and has played where he was needed only to move on after he was done.

Devin Harris, Utah Jazz

29 of 30

Devin Harris has been with the Utah Jazz for less than a year, but is already the team rag doll according to fans.

After rumors surfaced recently about Harris being on the trading block, fans have jumped on the bandwagon trying to get Harris out.

The Jazz point guard has struggled, but he has been in a difficult position due to being the player that replaced Deron Williams after the team surprisingly traded him to the New Jersey Nets last season.

Harris is unfortunately in a situation with many Jazz fans that no matter what he does, he will not be accepted due to feeling that the franchise betrayed them by trading Williams.

For a team that has a surprising 10-5 record, the distraction of the trade rumors and any negative treatment of Harris is not something they need to deal with.

Rashard Lewis, Washington Wizards

30 of 30

It is not hard to find a source of frustration on the Washington Wizards these days, but the player who has taken the biggest beating is Rashard Lewis.

It is never popular among teams and fans for a player to have several great seasons, earn a big contract and then see a huge decline in production.

Unfortunately for Lewis, this is exactly what happened and he has heard about it ever since.

Second only to Kobe Bryant in terms of salary this season, Lewis is making $22 million this year and $23 million next.

Before signing this contract and being traded to the Orlando Magic, Lewis did play well with the Seattle Supersonics, but still not at the level to deserve a $118 million contract.

As Lewis has seen his production decline, he has been beaten up by fans wondering how that ever happened in the first place.
