NBA Trade Talk: 5 Players Who Need a Change of Scenery

Tim LewisJan 21, 2012

With the NBA trade deadline less than two months away, rumors are beginning to swirl, as a number of big name players could potentially be on the move by March 15th.

More than any other year prior, this year's trade deadline could have a serious impact on who is ultimately crowned as NBA champions in June.

Let's take a look at five players who are in desperate need of a change in scenery.

5. Mo Williams: Los Angeles Clippers

1 of 5

Mo Williams is showing the world what he can do when given the opportunity, combining to score 51 points on 21-of-30 shooting over the Clippers' last two games.

Unfortunately for Williams, he'll soon be buried on the bench once again when Chris Paul returns to the starting lineup.

With Paul and Chauncey Billups firmly entrenched in the Clippers starting lineup, Williams will continue to split the remaining minutes with Randy Foye and Eric Bledsoe.

There's simply not enough room in the Clippers backcourt to accommodate all of these guards, and there are plenty of teams in the league (including that other team in Los Angeles) that could use a point guard of Williams' caliber.

4. Tayshaun Prince: Detroit Pistons

Tayshaun Prince is struggling to find his rhythm this season on a Detroit Pistons team that continues to search for its identity.

Prince is having the worst season of his 10-year NBA career and is averaging just 11.9 points per game (41.4 percent shooting) for the 3-13 Pistons.

As the Pistons look towards the future, Prince isn't likely to stick around while they continue their rebuilding efforts.

3. DeMarcus Cousins: Sacramento Kings

A trade list wouldn't be complete without DeMarcus Cousins on there would it?

Cousins has clearly worn out his welcome in Sacramento and could make a lot of teams very happy—if they can deal with the off-court issues.

Sooner or later, Cousins is going to have to grow up and act like an adult (he is 21 years old after all) in order to have a successful career.

I can think of plenty of teams that could use 14 points and 10 rebounds a night.

2. Devin Harris: Utah Jazz

4 of 5

What in the world has happened to Devin Harris?

This is a guy who averaged 21.3 points, 6.9 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game for the New Jersey Nets in 2009.

Many considered Harris a top-five point guard in the league heading into the 2010 season, but his inability to stay healthy (and knock down a jump shot consistently) continues to be an issue.

His struggles have reached an all-time low in Utah, as Harris is averaging just 8.1 points per game on a dismal 35 percent shooting clip.

His 0-for-7 performance against the Mavericks in a 94-91 home loss on Friday night may have sealed his fate—many feel the Jazz front office is actively shopping his services.

1. Paul Pierce: Boston Celtics

5 of 5

Could it be?

Paul Pierce has played all 14 of his NBA seasons with the Boston Celtics, but Danny Ainge (President of Basketball Operations) has made it clear that he will trade anyone on the roster if it sets up the Celtics better for the future.

If that is indeed the case, you can expect plenty of teams to come calling, inquiring about the services of one Paul Pierce.

Although it's no secret that Pierce's game has been gradually slowing down over the past five seasons, he could put a number of contending teams over the top in their quest for a title in 2012.
