Ohio State Football Recruiting: Prep Stars Urban Meyer Is Still Waiting on

Michael DixonJun 7, 2018

Despite being hit with recruiting sanctions, Ohio State's recruiting class is looking good; it's just not complete.

While Urban Meyer's first recruiting class at Ohio State is shaping up nicely, there are still impact players left for the coach to snag.

Joel Caleb

Caleb is the highest ranked uncommitted player on the Rivals 250 list that's shown interest in the Buckeyes. He would be a nice player at Ohio State, but I am not exactly sure where he fits into Meyer's system.

Caleb played quarterback in high school, and his game is similar to an Alex Smith or Tim Tebow. Still, he's expected to be a receiver in college, which is going to be troublesome, as his 40 time is less than stellar.

His value would be as a player who can keep defenses guessing, as Caleb would be good for a few trick plays a game. Still, while he's Ohio State's highest ranked realistic target, the Buckeyes don't need Caleb in Columbus.

Davonte Neal

Neal's Rivals profile compares him to Santana Moss, which is a good thing. Running a 4.4 40-yard dash, Neal has the kind of speed that keeps defenders up at night. He's a threat deep down field, has the speed to take a short pass and go the distance.

Another comparison Neal can draw because of his size (5'10", 175) and speed is Percy Harvin. Harvin was an integral player for each of Meyer's two national championships at Florida. Neal could easily play a similar role, as he can be lined up anywhere on the field.

Meyer would do exceptionally well to land Neal. He would give the offense multiple options and would force defenses to keep a close eye. That opens the door for the rest of the Buckeyes' playmakers.

Bam Bradley

The Ohio native is an impact safety that is needed to succeed in the Big Ten. At 6'0", 222 pounds, Bradley has the bulk to step in the box and stop a power runner. How do you think he got the name Bam?

But Bradley also has the speed that will be needed to stay up top and defend the pass. He is also a perfect example of the problem in the star system. While Rivals.com only lists Bradley as a 3-star recruit, he actually has the game perfect for the Big Ten's style of football, which is run first.

The Buckeyes would do very well to land Bradley. He is the perfect kind of player that can be used primarily on special teams early and be an impact player late.
