10 Most Ridiculous Shots of the Early NBA Season
If you thought the lockout was going to hurt the NBA's ratings, those thoughts went out on opening night, which saw the ratings go up.
The NBA is truly where amazing happens. Whether it's just the "how-did-he-do-that" play or the game-winning buzzer beater, how do you not watch?
Here are 10 of the best, most ridiculous shots of the season so far.
If you have another that missed the list, feel free to post a link below.
Danny Green Hits 40-Foot Buzzer Beater Against Heat
1 of 10The amazing thing about Danny Green's buzzer beater at the half is that it was a follow-up to a buzzer-beating shot in the first quarter.
That it came from 40 feet doesn't hurt either.
Monta Ellis' Circus Shot
2 of 10This is really one of those shots that makes you happy for HD video and slow motion replay.
To the naked eye it's hard to appreciate, but when you slow it down and look closer, you see it's a no look shot, which was amazing. I still don't know how Ellis got that to go in and I've watched it at least 10 times.
Chris Bosh Spin Cycle with Dunk
3 of 10Chris Bosh going coast-to-coast isn't something you see all the time. Here he puts not one, not two, but three San Antonio Spurs in the spin cycle after going going coast-to-coast for the dunk finish.
What was that about Two and a Half Men? I'd be happy to take that half.
Chris Paul Hits from Deep
4 of 10Chris Paul had no business making this shot. Talk about long distance! He couldn't even get cell phone coverage from where he shot this!
What makes it even more impressive is that from that distance he still has the perfect arc on it. And he did it with no time on the shot clock and a hand in his face.
Derrick Rose Reverse Layup off the Backboard with English Through Traffic
5 of 10This shot by Derrick Rose is what I like to call an "E" shot.
What I mean by that is when you're playing a game of horse and you're ready to nail that "E" on your opponent, you make a shot like this.
That english off the glass going backwards is not nearly as easy as it looks. Rose makes that look simple, but go try that off the nearest backboard. Doing it through an entire defensive team is just ridiculous.
Like Jeff Van Gundy says, "I think on plays like this the game should stop and we should honor him at midcourt."
In terms of just sheer athletic magnificence, this is the shot of the year so far. We've seen things like this from a guard in a Bulls uniform before.
Dwyane Wade's Game Winner Versus Minnesota
6 of 10The combination of Dwyane Wade getting that open, and LeBron James seeing him and hitting him with the perfect pass takes the drama out of the shot. Everything was perfect on this. The play call and the execution were just artful.
Derek Fisher Game Winner Versus the Mavericks
7 of 10Derek Fisher gets all the credit for this shot, but you have to love Kobe Bryant's action here. You knew he was going to take the shot. I knew he was going to take the shot. The Dallas Mavericks knew he was going to take the shot.
Everything in his body language said he was going to take the shot.
The way he drew the defenders to him and got Fisher so open, then fed him the ball was magnificent. Fisher had time for a meal before he got up the shot.
Chauncey Billups Game Winner Versus the Mavericks
8 of 10Last night Chancey Billups hit the "Big Shot" as his three sank the Mavericks. I think you could have shrunk the rim down two inches and it still would have been good. That one dropped straight through to the bottom of the net.
He got his nickname for a reason and he lived up to it last night.
Kevin Durant Versus the Mavericks
9 of 10What's truly to be appreciated on this shot is that he takes a page out of Dirk Nowitzki's book on the jumper. The angling on the fadeaway, the lifting up the right knee to keep some separation to make sure the shot can't blocked, the 50-degree angle on the shot, all of that is straight out of the Nowitzki collection.
A perfect and beautiful shot that was apparently a trend setter. Seems like after that everyone wanted to beat Dallas on a buzzer beater.
Luol Deng's Steal and Derrick Rose's Game Winner
10 of 10I'l probably get some criticism for this as number one because I'm a Bulls fan, but if it were the Bulls on the losing end I'd still have it here.
First, it's not just a game winner It's a steal and a game winner. The Bulls had no timeouts left. The Lakers essentially had won the game.
Luol Deng's steal made the game winner possible.
Second, like all the other shots that are at the top it was a game-winning shot.
Third, of all the game-winning shots, this was the most difficult to make. I mean a 6' 3" player with the acrobatic shot over a 7' 2" center to win the game? Amazing happened!
