10 Deadliest Long-Range Threats in the NBA
The three-point shot is a game changer in today's NBA.
Some teams shoot it better than others, and some players shoot it much better than other players.
We are going to take a look at those select guys who do their damage from behind the arc.
Who qualifies as a deadly long-range shooter?
First of all, they are the guys who shoot it a lot. For instance, Dallas' Corey Brewer leads the NBA in three-point percentage, but has only 20 attempts from behind the arc this season. That's not nearly enough to qualify.
Secondly, you have to knock it down at a high rate. Joe Johnson, for instance, has made 28 shots from distance this season, but is only connecting 36 percent of the time from three-point range. You have to be hitting at least 40 percent of the time to be called deadly.
Here's a look at the 10 deadliest shooters so far this season.
Ray Allen
1 of 10We can't have a list of deadly shooters without having the game's best three-point shooter of all time on it.
Allen is still connecting at a high rate, as he's third in the NBA, currently knocking them down at a .574 clip.
The man was born to shoot the basketball, and his jumper is as pretty as it's ever been.
Paul George
2 of 10The youngster George can shoot it as well, as he's right behind Allen in three-point percentage at .550 percent.
The Pacers made the right choice with George as their starting two-guard.
Ryan Anderson
3 of 10The New York Knicks just found out exactly how deadly Anderson can be from the outside, as he shot the Orlando Magic to a victory at Madison Square Garden.
The Magic forward currently leads the NBA in three-point shots made with 45, which is nine more than the next guy.
Richard Jefferson
4 of 10That next guy would be Jefferson, who's having a career resurgence after nearly becoming a victim of the amnesty clause in the offseason.
Jefferson has connected on 36 of his long-range attempts and is shooting a remarkable 49 percent from behind the arc.
He's been deadly this season.
Danny Green
5 of 10Jefferson isn't the only one giving the Spurs production from behind the arc.
Green has filled in nicely for Manu Ginobili and is fifth in the NBA in three-point percentage, draining them at a .541 clip.
Th Spurs are suddenly a lethal three-point shooting team.
Hedo Turkoglu
6 of 10Turkoglu is thought of more as a pick-and-roll artist, but he has been fantastic from behind the arc this season.
He's hitting 48 percent of the time and has shot the long ball a lot, as he's in the top 10 in the NBA in three-point attempts.
Anthony Morrow
7 of 10Speaking of a guy that shoots it a lot, that's Morrow, who's currently fifth in the NBA in three-point attempts with 75. He connects on 44 percent of those attempts, so he's pretty lethal from a distance.
Mario Chalmers
8 of 10While Chalmers hasn't exactly made anything spectacular like he did to help Kansas win the 2008 National Championship, he's been a very good shooter at the NBA level, especially this season.
All he's done is knock down over 46 percent of his attempts on the season. Playing on the Miami Heat, he's going to get opportunities to knock down shots; he just has to take advantage of his opportunities.
So far this year, he has done exactly that.
Kyle Korver
9 of 10Korver has always been a shooter, and after a somewhat down season last year, when he connected on only 41 percent of his attempts, he's back at closer to 45 percent this season.
He's been thought of as deadly in the past and is in a pretty good groove this season.
Nicolas Batum
10 of 10I was tempted to give the final spot to Jason Terry, but Batum shoots it at a much higher percentage.
Batum is currently hitting over 48 percent of his attempts, which makes him more accurate from downtown than Terry's 43 percent. Leave Batum open, and he will make you pay in a big way.
