NBA Rumors: Why Teams Must Avoid Signing Rasheed Wallace Like the Plague
Rasheed Wallace wants to come back and play. There are reportedly "several" teams that are interested. There's ample reason to understand why. Wallace has a ring on his hand, he was an All-Star player in his prime and brings both an offensive and defensive acumen.
On the other hand, he brings something else to the table.
That is, Rasheed Wallace.
In Rasheed Wallace, you have a time bomb. He's a player with noted tantrum problems. In fact, he has more technical fouls—304—in the history of the league than anyone else.
He's also had a hand in making the Trial Blazers the Jail Blazers.
Yes, that was a long time ago, but there are issues that surround him.
Potentially, he could help a team. However, that's part of the danger. He's just tantalizing enough to make you say, "Why not?" However, once you get to the point of no return, you say, "Oh! That's why not!"
Wallace is probably not in game-shape. Once he gets into game-shape and is able to help a team in need, it might be too late.
I'll qualify this with saying that it's possible by the end of the season. I might be proven wrong, but from this end of history, I'm going to say—if he lands anywhere—it will end up being no difference to a bad difference. The risk-reward on Wallace tells me it's better to stay away.
