2012 NFL Draft: Morris Claiborne Decides to Leave LSU for the NFL

LSU loses one of the best athletes in the nation, as Morris Claiborne has decided to forgo his senior year and make way to the NFL. LSU beat writer Shea Dixon reported the news via Twitter on Thursday afternoon. 

There is no reason for Claiborne to hang his head on his way to the next level. LSU had a remarkable season despite getting rocked by Alabama in the 2012 BCS Championship Game. It's all bright horizons from here on out, as Claiborne is by far one of the most coveted defensive backs in the draft.

While not shocking, the news that Claiborne is going pro is guaranteed to shape that NFL draft in an immense way.

ESPN's Mel Kiper has Claiborne as fourth on his board and states Claiborne may not grab headlines with his name currently, but he very well might shortly.

Perhaps the lesser-known of the LSU corners, but the better one. He's just very good, an exceptional pure cover corner with impeccable instincts at the position. Locates the ball and can catch it. Not a burner, but plenty quick.

"

Bleacher Report's own draft guru Matt Miller has Claiborne slotted as the fifth player taken, going to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He states:

Claiborne has quietly emerged as the country's best cover man. He has elite coverage ability and will be an instant star in Tampa Bay on an improving defense.

"

There is, of course, no way of knowing where Claiborne will end up. We still have a great deal that can happen during the draft process. However, it's clear that Claiborne is a highly-regarded corner that may be the next star shutting down cocky receivers next season.

There is no doubt that a warrior like Claiborne wanted to make up for a disappointing end to the season, but there is no way he could pass up such a remarkable opportunity. Claiborne is primed to be the first corner snatched up on the board. If he can prove his speed and acceleration at the combine, he may even continue his amazing rise up draft boards. 

It truly is a day of celebration for LSU supporters, who will see one of their own leave to the NFL, continuing to bring pride to the Tigers' name.
