NBA Trade Rumors: Why Someone Besides the Nets Will Land Dwight Howard
Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard has made it known that he still wants to be traded. As a result, the Magic have once again given his agent permission to talk to the three teams on his list. That is, the New Jersey Nets, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks.
It's also been widely speculated that Howard will eventually get his wish and be traded to New Jersey so that he can be teamed with point guard Deron Williams.
Not so fast.
There is no guarantee that Howard will end up in a Nets uniform or with any of the teams on his list.
First of all, Magic general manager Otis Smith is going to see this play out. He's been in no hurry to grant Howard his wish and I can't see that changing any time soon.
Next, do not forget the initial offer from the Nets back before the season began.
If Smith wasn't interested in Brook Lopez, a pair of first-round picks and the fact that New Jersey would take Hedo Turkoglu's contract off their hands, there's really not much more the Nets can do to sweeten the offer.
New Jersey doesn't exactly have talent to trade or they wouldn't be a 2-8 team to begin with.
They tried getting Portland involved, who would have parted with Gerald Wallace. However, there's no way the Trail Blazers return to those talks or even think about parting ways with Wallace after the great start to the 2012 season that they've had.
Next is the injury to Lopez.
Will he be fully healthy by the trade deadline anyway? Sure, he's on pace, but will he be 100 percent?
Even if he is, are the Magic that high on him anyway?
There's just too many questions surrounding a potential Howard deal to the Nets.
Eventually, the Magic are going to have to make the right deal for them and that very well could send Howard to another team rather then the New Jersey Nets.
