National Signing Day 2012: Predicting Which Schools Will Have the Biggest Impact

Edwin WeathersbyJun 7, 2018

National Signing Day is coming and coming fast folks. Recruiting is picking up steam and we're headed for another fantastic finish.

With this read, I'm going to give you several programs that I figure will have a lurking presence on February 1st.

These schools are waiting on big-name players to shape up their final classes.

Let's get started.

5. Auburn

The Tigers always make a signing day surge, based on their past two NSD's under Gene Chizik. This year likely will be no different.

Auburn is waiting to hear from big names like Kwon Alexander, Avery Young, Stefon Diggs and even Ronald Darby and Arik Armstead.

NSD is going to be an anticipated day on the Plains.

4. Notre Dame

Brian Kelly is trying to hold onto a very solid class and nestle into the top 10 rankings next month. Losing Ronald Darby's commitment is not the ideal initial step to go, however.

Still, Darby still is looking at the Irish, who are also waiting on Nelson Agholor, Josh Garnett and even Arik Armstead.

3. Texas

Mack Brown and his staff are going to be in for a bit of a culture shock on NSD. Meaning, they're actually going to be working the phones and waiting on some players.

See, most of the time on NSD, Brown's classes are already complete and he basically sips coffee all day, files faxed-in letters-of-intent, holds a press conference, then goes home.

This year, he's going to be waiting to see if he lands Mario Edwards, Dorial Green-Beckham and maybe planning the arrival of Arik Amrstead.

2. Florida State

The Noles are getting back to their old ways: you know, when they used have their hand on many of the 5-star prospects and close out in a flash on National Signing Day.

This year, Jimbo Fisher will first be waiting to see if he can hold on to Mario Edwards and Jameis Winston.

Then he'll look to see what happens with Nelson Agholor, Dante Fowler, Andrus Peat, Eddie Goldman, Stefon Diggs and Ronald Darby.

1. Florida

I've been saying it for a long time now: don't be shocked if the Florida Gators end up with the No.1 class. The Gators have their hands in several pots.

From Nelson Agholor to Stefon Diggs to Avery Young to Kyle Murphy to Darius Hamilton to Tracy Howard to Josh Harvey-Clemons, UF could be in store for a big NSD.

Florida may not have had the season they wished they had, but this recruiting cycle has gone well. Signing day could be even better.
