Updated Game-by-Game NFL Playoff Predictions All the Way to the Super Bowl

Tony SantorsaJun 7, 2018

I hate to say it—but I told you so.

A week ago, I predicted that the Denver Broncos will upset the Pittsburgh Steelers, and no one bought it.

Here's proof

Now that I got that out of the way, I feel a little bit better, and now, I can start to look forward into my updated playoff pictures.

Does the Wild Card weekend's results change my Super Bowl prediction? Read to find out!

What I Got Wrong and What I Got Right

1 of 8

Here are my original playoff predictions that I posted a week ago.

As you saw, the only one that I got wrong was the Cincinnati Bengals vs. Houston Texans game, which, if you ask me, it was ultimately a toss-up. Two rookie quarterbacks battling it out, it simply came down to who made the least mistakes, and ultimately, that was the Texans.

What do I get right? Well gee, I don't know; I'm the only one who predicted this: the Denver Broncos upsetting the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I had been saying all season long that Tim Tebow will win at least one playoff game—and he did. But does that mean I'll have enough faith in saying that he'll win next weekend? Continue reading to find out!

AFC Divisional Round: Denver Broncos vs. New England Patriots

2 of 8

Tom Brady vs. Tim Tebow—we have already seen this matchup once before, with the New England Patriots coming out on top, 41-23, back in Week 15.

Do I think it will change much? Not at all actually.

The game will be played at Gillette Stadium, and I guarantee that Bill Belichick and the Patriots snap their two-game home playoff losing streak with a pretty convincing victory over the Broncos.

Tebow magic stops here. He simply cannot keep up with Brady and New England's offensive attack.

Prediction: New England 42, Denver 24

AFC Divisional Round: Houston Texans vs. Baltimore Ravens

3 of 8

Let's put it this way: T.J. Yates, a rookie quarterback, against the Baltimore Ravens defense? Not a chance. No chance at all.

No matter how poorly Joe Flacco plays, the Ravens defense will score points for their offense, much like their Week 3 victory over the New York Jets.

Prediction: Baltimore 24, Houston 10

NFC Divisional Round: New York Giants vs. Green Bay Packers

4 of 8

Just over a month ago, the New York Giants nearly knocked off the undefeated Green Bay Packers as they fell short at home, 38-35.

So with the Packers hosting the Giants at Lambeau Field next weekend, I automatically have to pick the No. 1 seed and arguably the best team in football? Absolutely not.

The weather at Lambeau may or may not be messy, but regardless of the precipitation, it's going to be cold. You know that and I know that; it will be cold.

So what does that mean? I believe that New York's defense led by Jason Pierre-Paul will be able to put a clamp on Aaron Rodgers and the Packers passing attack, much like the Kansas City Chiefs did a few weeks ago.

This is bold, but I am going with the Giants in this one.

Prediction: New York 24, Green Bay 17

NFC Divisional Round: New Orlenas Saints vs. San Francisco 49ers

5 of 8

What do we know about this one? The San Francisco 49ers have the fourth best defense in the NFL, while the New Orleans Saints finished 2011 as the top-ranked offense. Who will prevail?

For starters, Drew Brees and the Saints are a dome team, and they'll be playing out in San Francisco. Granted, it may not be warm, but it's not going to be freezing—I'll bet money on that.

Brees and New Orleans' offense simply looked too good against the Detroit Lions this past weekend, as they scored an incredible 45 points while Brees passed for 466 yards and three scores.

Brees' passing attack will simply be too much for San Fran's elite defense to handle.

Prediction: New Orleans 31, San Francisco 20

AFC Championship: Baltimore Ravens vs. New England Patriots

6 of 8

This is not the 2009 New England Patriots. We will not see a blowout much like the 2010 playoffs, when the Baltimore Ravens ran down New England's throat and set the Patriots packing by a 33-14 score.

New England's offense will be too much for Baltimore's defense to handle.

The Patriots have two of the top tight ends in Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez along with the best possession wide receiver in the game, Wes Welker. No matter how much Baltimore blitzes the Patriots like they did back in early 2010, Brady will find the open man, as his receiving corp is much more deep than it was back then.

Prediction: New England 35, Baltimore 17

NFC Championship: New York Giants vs. New Orleans Saints

7 of 8

Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints playing at home? This is a gimme—their offense will simply destroy any defense that stands in its way.

Eli Manning and the New York Giants certainly had one of a hell playoff run, as they knocked off the Atlanta Falcons and the Green Bay Packers, but their offense will not be able to keep up with the Saints. New York's defense will be running up and down the field chasing after New Orleans receivers.

Prediction: New Orleans 42, New York 28

Super Bowl XLVI: New Orleans Saints vs New England Patriots

8 of 8

It's been almost 10 years since Tom Brady and the New England Patriots won their first ever Super Bowl and ultimately kicked off the start of their dynasty, and they'll add to their legacy with a Super Bowl victory in the place where Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts play their home games.

I made these predictions all the way back in August, and I am sticking to them. The New Orleans Saints vs. New England Patriots will be one entertaining Super Bowl with a whole lot of offense.

We know that New England's offense and New Orleans' offense is going to score a lot of points; that's a given. However, this game will be won by whichever defense comes up with the most stops.

Ultimately, it is Bill Belichick vs. Greg Williams, and I am putting my money on the modern-day Vince Lombardi, Coach Belichick.

Prediction: New England 35, New Orleans 31
