2012 NFL Mock Draft: Projecting Alshon Jeffery and the Most Dynamic WRs

John RozumJun 7, 2018

We know other receivers like Oklahoma State's Justin Blackmon and Notre Dame's Michael Floyd are dynamic targets, but let's take a look at some of the other receivers in the draft.

There's obviously plenty of talent to go around, and with the NFL so reliant on the passing game, receivers have no choice but to be dynamic. So, here are others to keep an eye on.

Tennessee Titans: Alshon Jeffery, South Carolina

1 of 4

With his size and sneaky top speed, it's easy to watch South Carolina's Alshon Jeffery and see that he's your prototypical fade-route-in-the-red-zone receiver.

Well, because of that size he makes for a solid targets across the middle and can be effective as a edge blocker in the running game. He's good fit for the Tennessee Titans who need one more reliable receiver next to a healthy Kenny Britt and Nate Washington.

Then include Alshon's size and quickness to block smaller DBs and linebackers, and RB Chris Johnson will start off his 2012 campaign a lot faster than 2011.

What's scary is that Johnson had a down year and the Titans still went 9-7. Not to mention they were without Britt for most of the season. Bring in Alshon Jeffery who was the Gamecocks offense, since they had no legit QB or ground game once Marcus Lattimore got hurt, who was zeroed in on.

Still, Jeffery accumulated over 700 receiving yards and scored eight TDs on 49 receptions.

Had there been a better QB under center, much like there will be in Tennessee, Jeffery has the potential to dominate any secondary.

Chicago Bears: Nick Toon, Wisconsin

2 of 4

An underrated receiver but a damn good one.

Wisconsin's Nick Toon goes overlooked because he plays in the Big Ten, and all the Badgers really do is run the football.

In turn, that makes Toon a great fit for the Chicago Bears as they need a truly reliable receiver who can also consistently block well down field.

With an offense that is geared to the production of running back Matt Forte, defenses need not worry about the Bears passing game as it's been lackluster, even with Jay Cutler.

Well, bring in a guy like Toon who's a strong possession target that can stretch the field and go across the middle, Chicago will welcome the toughness. In 2011, Toon caught 64 passes for 926 yards and scored 10 TDs.

Considering how much the Badgers relied on the ground game and QB Russell Wilson's scrambling ability, Toon's numbers are quite impressive. The Windy City needs that kind of receiver that will slice defenses while also punishing them as a blocker.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Mohamed Sanu, Rutgers

3 of 4

Most likely an early second-round pick in Tampa Bay, Rutgers' Mohamed Sanu really had a breakout performance in 2011.

This past season, Sanu caught 115 passes for over 1,200 yards and scored seven TDs.

Working more as a receiver in 2011, Sanu's stock has sky-rocketed as the Scarlet Knights finished 9-4 including a win over Iowa State (who beat Oklahoma State) in the Pinstripe Bowl.

With the Buccaneeers, Sanu will immediately become a great target for QB Josh Freeman. Tampa only did well in the passing game because of Freeman's ability to buy time and his field of version being underrated.

Sanu can also help with the consistency in the Bucs ground game as he accounted for 655 rushing yards on 121 carries and scored nine TDs.

His acceleration, quickness and lateral agility will make for a horizontal run game in the NFC South that gives Tampa a niche advantage. Then LeGarrette Blount can become more consistently effective as defenses won't stack the box to shut him down.

San Francisco 49ers: Jordan White, Western Michigan

4 of 4

A receiver most have never heard of since he plays in the MAC and for Western Michigan, Jordan White is the real deal despite being an expected sixth/seventh-round pick.

The man did everything for the Broncos and compiled over 1,900 receiving yards on 140 receptions and scored 17 TDs. A year ago, White caught 94 balls for almost 1,400 yards and scored 10 TDs.

White is also a good punt-returner as he gained 222 yards on 23 returns.

In the NFL, a good team for White is the San Francisco 49ers. Coach Jim Harbaugh and QB Alex Smith need a complete receiver who fits their system well, and White is that guy.

With Braylon Edwards gone, receivers Michael Crabtree and Josh Morgan will be Smith's two best guys in 2012. That being said, San Francisco needs a third reliable target in the slot who can widen and stretch the field.

Well, White's 1,911 receiving yards led the nation so he can definitely be a solid contributor in a run-oriented offense. Plus, with Greg Jennings having done so well in Green Bay, Western Michigan may be turning into a reputable receiver factory.
