U.S. Army All-American Game 2012: The Most Overrated Prospects Playing

Edwin WeathersbyMay 31, 2018

The Army Game will take place tomorrow afternoon and it's the second of the two prime-time All-Star games for evaluators. Everyone will be watching as we get to see much of the nation's best go at it, plus the big time commitments set to happen during the game.

Yet, as always, there are a few players who maybe aren't ready for this stage. Now, it's an honor for each of these players to play in this game, and I'm not saying they don't deserve to be there...

I'm just saying these prospects may be a bit overrated right now.

Keith Brown, LB

1 of 3

Brown is a 6'2", 230-pound LB from Florida who, after spending more time studying him this season, makes me question his instincts. He gets lost on the field at times, disappears for stretches and just blends in too easily.

He may be a better fit in a 3-4 scheme as an OLB, as he can just be asked to get upfield and not read, decipher and react as much. I just find him too much of a "clear-view" guy right now.

Byron Marshall, RB

2 of 3

Marshall was once well into the top 100 recruits list for many publications. But I have questions on him based on watching his film.

I question Marshall's willingness to run inside, and that's what is worrying some evaluators. He's a perimeter runner, and may not want to bang with the big boys in college. He's got a sleek and light frame at 5'10", 180 pounds.

It'll be interesting to see how he fares tomorrow afternoon.

Timothy Cole, LB

3 of 3

At 6'2", 220 pounds, Cole has a big red flag in my book—watching his tape, I question the consistency of his natural instincts. But in my scouting and evaluation litmus test, he does have one of the imperative traits overall, as Cole has solid play speed.

With his instincts, I wonder if he will be helped by the factors of good college coaching, experience, reps and film study. Watching how he develops at Texas will be very interesting throughout his career.
