Urban Meyer Finishes Ohio State Football Staff, Ready for Finish Recruiting
The first coaching staff of Urban Meyer's tenure at Ohio State has been finally completed, according to multiple sources that have Notre Dame assistants Ed Warriner and Tim Hinton coming to Columbus.
Hinton will be the tight ends coach and Warriner the offensive line coach, according to the Columbus Dispatch.
With the staff rounded out and assignments doled out, this SEC-level coaching staff appears poised to finish the recruiting class of 2012 on a high note.
They have already started things off with a bang since Meyer's hiring, with wide receiver Ricquan Southward, defensive ends Se'Von Pittman and Noah Spence and defensive tackle Tommy Schutt.
Defensive end Adolphus Washington had committed just days before the announcement of Meyer taking the Ohio State job.
That means out of the last five committers Ohio State has reeled in, three of the five have five stars, according to Scout.com's rankings.
Until then, they had only one player, running back Brionte Dunn, a five-star recruit.
Mostly, the slow start in recruiting was due to the instability around the program after the Jim Tressel-Terrelle Pryor scandal.
Now, with some closure and a full-time coach in place, the effect of a stable Buckeye program is combined with the allure of playing for a two-time national champion coach in Meyer.
He has generated an unbelievable rush of interest in the program without even finishing a coaching staff in just a month.
With all the potential recruits now knowing who their position coaches will be, things are starting to become more defined. layers can probably get a better idea of how they would fit in.
Ohio State has room for about five or six more players in this recruiting class, and they do have an assortment of needs on the offensive line and in terms of an offensive gamebreaker, ala Percy Harvin.
They are still waiting to hear on offensive linemen Jordan Diamond and Joey O'Connor, and current Wisconsin committer Kyle Dodson among others up front.
Diamond will likely commit on National Signing Day, while the status of O'Connor and Dodson are still up in the air.
In the wide receiver department, Cyrus Jones is out, committing to Alabama after having mild interest in the Buckeyes.
Stefon Diggs' is an unknown as well, as little news one way or the other has been revealed.
Thus, it seems Meyer is putting the full-court press on Chaparral (Ariz.) wide receiver Davonte Neal, a former Ohio State ball boy who has family from Ohio.
Neal is a huge gamebreaker and Ohio State seems to be a strong contender for his services.
Cincinnati Moeller wide receiver Monty Madaris has also been another hot commodity, as Meyer has shown strong interest in the young man that has flown under the radar.
Former Tennessee committer Dalton Santos has also been linked to Meyer, according to Scout.com. He's a possibility, especially if the Buckeyes can get him to visit campus.
Whoever Meyer and Ohio State is able to land to round out a suddenly strong recruiting class, the Buckeyes might be able to get the Urban Meyer era off to a great start.
They will only have 12 games next year, but can get started the right way by finishing up with a great crop of freshmen and get ready to play for a BCS bid again in the 2013 season.
