Rose Bowl 2012: High-Powered Oregon Offense Will Run over Wisconsin Defense

Nicholas GossJun 7, 2018

The high-scoring Oregon Ducks offense will run over the Wisconsin Badgers defense and lead the Pac-12 champions to a Rose Bowl victory.

The Ducks have scored 46.2 points per game this season, which ranks third in the country. They also average just under 296 rushing yards per game, which ranks fifth in America.

Oregon has so many offensive weapons that create matchup nightmares for opposing defensive coordinators, and one star that will destroy the Badgers on Tuesday is running back LaMichael James. James is one of the most talented players in the country, and he dominated the UCLA defense for 219 rushing yards and three touchdowns in the Pac-12 championship on December 2. His speed, elusiveness and vision allow him to make remarkable runs on even the best defenses.

The Badgers allowed the sixth fewest points per game this season, but they haven't faced an offense as talented as Oregon or a player as dominant as James. The only Big Ten school other than Wisconsin in the top 30 of total offense this season was Northwestern, so the Badgers aren't used to facing an offense as quick and talented as the Ducks'.

The Wisconsin defense was 65th in the country in sacks, and if they cannot get to Oregon quarterback Darron Thomas and force him into making poor decisions, then they will be in a lot of trouble. Thomas can also make plays with his legs, making him and James a terrific duo that can turn busted plays into large gains.

While Wisconsin has a high-powered offense of their own, the Ducks are perfectly built to win a possible shootout. Oregon has more playmakers on offense and guys who change the momentum of a game with just one big play.

The Ducks' high-powered offense will run over the Badgers defense in an exciting Rose Bowl that is sure to be filled with a ton of points.
