NFL Draft 2012: Teams That Should Consider Trading Up for Andrew Luck
The NFL draft will be here before you know it, which means the Indianapolis Colts will be listening to a number of phone calls for Andrew Luck.
In all honesty, the Colts need to draft Luck, but there's a chance a team will give them a very big offer. If it's extremely enticing, the Colts may just trade the No. 1 overall pick.
Luck is being labeled as the next Peyton Manning, so naturally teams are going to want him. The price will be steep, but that doesn't mean teams won't try to pry the top pick from the Colts.
With that said, here are just a few teams that should consider trading up for Luck.
Cleveland Browns
The Browns have a decent quarterback in Colt McCoy, but he hasn't show signs of greatness that would warrant a potential future Super Bowl run for Cleveland.
Since Cleveland has two first-round picks, it's in better shape than most teams that would be after Luck. With the No. 4 pick, the Browns could hold onto it and possibly draft Robert Griffin III, but there's no guarantee he'd still be there.
RGIII will be a hot name come draft day, meaning teams might trade up for him too. Luck is the better prospect, though, as he fits an NFL system perfectly and is less of a project.
They have a ton of different needs, but landing a star QB like Luck would help put the Browns back on the map and give them a better shot at winning the tough AFC North.
Washington Redskins
Mike Shanahan is a good coach, but if he wants to keep his job he has to start winning more, which means he needs a better quarterback.
Rex Grossman and John Beck aren't getting the job done, and neither should be starting in the NFL. Washington will have to pay a pretty penny to get Luck, but it's truly a great QB away from winning the NFC East.
With a legitimate quarterback, the Redskins' offense will be light years better. The defense isn't horrible, but it would definitely play better if it wasn't constantly on the field because of a putrid offense.
Shanahan would help Luck continue to get better, and the Redskins would have to be taken seriously not just in their division but also around the league.
Seattle Seahawks
The NFC West is a very winnable division for Seattle, but the Seahawks need a huge upgrade at quarterback. Yes, the 49ers were superb this season, but life wouldn't have been so easy if there was actual competition in the division.
Pete Carroll would work wonders with Luck, and we've already seen how crazy he can be with his draft picks. Offering up multiple picks this year or next, as well as players would make the Colts considering trading the top pick.
Marshawn Lynch has the Seahawks' run game in a great spot. Now all they need on offense is a QB that can help them win games.
With the 11th or 12th pick (currently tied with Kansas City Chiefs, will be decided by coin toss at NFL Scouting Combine) the Seahawks won't be able to get an elite QB.
Trading up is their best option, as it will help them win games right away.
