Report: Ja Morant 'Associates' Trained Red Laser on Pacers Staff After Altercation

A security guard with the Indiana Pacers accused "associates" of Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant of training a red laser attached to a gun on members of the team's traveling party following a verbal altercation after a Jan. 29 game.

Bob Kravitz and Sam Amick of The Athletic reported on the incident that happened after the Grizzlies defeated the Pacers 112-100 in Memphis.

"Acquaintances of Grizzlies star Ja Morant aggressively confronted members of the Pacers traveling party near the team's bus in the loading area of FedExForum, and later someone in a slow-moving SUV—which Morant was riding in—trained a red laser on them," Kravitz and Amick wrote.

There was some confusion about whether it was attached to a gun, but the security guard who was present at the time said, "that's 100 percent a gun." Another person said "we felt we were in grave danger."

Multiple members of the traveling party did not file a police report out of fear of retribution, but the team told the NBA, which conducted its own investigation.

"While we substantiated that a postgame situation arose that was confrontational, based on interviews and other evidence gathered, we could not corroborate that any individual threatened others with a weapon," NBA spokesperson Mike Bass said. "Certain individuals involved in the postgame situation and a related matter during the game that night have been subsequently banned from attending games in the arena."

Kravitz and Amick provided a timeline of events, noting Morant's father, Tee, and friend, Davonte Pack, verbally sparred with members of the Pacers at times during the game.

It reached a point that Pack was removed from the floor after things got particularly heated, but he was among the four to five men who were shouting at the Pacers traveling party in the bus loading area after the game.

Security intervened, but members of the traveling party said the SUV that Morant, Pack and someone else entered slowly drove past their bus and trained the red laser at them.

Memphis swept the two games against Indiana this season, meaning the Pacers won't travel to FedExForum again until next season barring a stunning run to the NBA Finals.
