NBA Trade Rumors: Pelicans' Devonte' Graham, Jaxson Hayes 'Considered Available'

Timothy RappJan 30, 2023

The New Orleans Pelicans have dropped to 26-25 on the season amidst their eight-game losing streak. They're only 3-11 in the month of January.

It wouldn't be shocking if the Pelicans tried to tweak their roster ahead of the Feb. 9 NBA trade deadline in an effort to right the ship.

According to Michael Scotto of HoosHype, Devonte' Graham and Jaxson Hayes are "considered available on the trade market, according to executives around the league."

The Pelicans' losing streak has dropped them to eighth in the Western Conference standings, although they still have plenty of time to turn things around. Making a splashy move at the trade deadline could help in that regard.

Graham, 27, has been a disappointment coming off the bench this season. He's averaging only 5.3 points and 2.2 assists in 15.4 minutes per game while shooting a woeful 36.7 percent overall and 34.8 percent from three-point range.

For a player who has averaged 11.5 points per game in his career, his performance this year has come as a surprise. But with Jose Alvarado holding down the Pelicans' backup point guard job, Graham has become a less vital part of the rotation. It's easy to see why he would be considered expendable.

A change of scenery might be best for both sides at this point.

Hayes, 22, has likewise been a disappointment, averaging only 5.2 points and three rebounds in 14.1 minutes per game. He's regressed in his fourth NBA season, and the Pelicans have plenty of bigs coming off the bench in Larry Nance Jr. and Willy Hernangómez behind starting center Jonas Valančiūnas.

Like Graham, it isn't hard to see why Hayes might be on the trade block. He hasn't taken a major leap this season and is heading into restricted free agency.

Whether either player moves the needle around the NBA remains to be seen. But if the Pelicans do shake things up, these two would be the logical players to move.
