2011 Bowl Schedule: Boise State and More Teams with Blowout Victories

Richard LangfordDec 31, 2011

The following matchups proved they were laughably inadequate bowl games. They were blowouts that never needed to be played, as a superior team was forced to end their season without a chance to prove themselves against a worthy opponent.

These games only point to the absurdity of a bowl system over a playoff system. They fuel the hunger of fans ravenous for satisfaction and answers, and not a lackluster royal beatdown.

Boise State

Boise State 56, Arizona State 24

This game was a joke the moment it was announced. Boise State deserved a BCS bid, and instead they got an Arizona State team that was falling apart at the seams.

This game had the potential to be close, and then Arizona State kicked off to start the game. The Broncos promptly took said kickoff to the house and the beatdown was on.

Boise State was up 21-0 before the Sun Devils put up a whopping three points. This game was 28-3 at halftime.

Arizona State put up two TDs late, to make it look kind of, sort of respectable.

This was an unfortunate end to the Broncos season. They deserved a bigger stage and a more worthy opponent.

Temple

Temple 37, Wyoming 15

This game arrived with little fanfare, and that's a good thing because it was terrible. This game was 21-0 early in the second quarter. It was 28-7 at halftime.

This game wasn't even as close as the score suggested. Wyoming scored their second TD with three seconds left.

This was a good win for Temple to end their season. As for Wyoming, well, at least they played in a bowl game. Although, judging by their performance that fact may by up for debate.

Missouri

Missouri 41, North Carolina 24

On paper, this looked like a solid matchup. Both teams entered with 7-5 records. However, North Carolina did most of their damage out of conference against weak opponents and they entered this game grossly overrated.

North Carolina jumped out on top 7-0...and then the game was over. Missouri scored 31 unanswered points before halftime.

Missouri averaged 7.1 yards per carry as they shredded the over-matched and pathetic Tar Heel defense.
