College Bowl Picks: 4 Reasons Why LSU Will Dominate Alabama

Nicholas GossDec 31, 2011

LSU went to Tuscaloosa and beat Alabama on their home turf in overtime back in November, and on January 9 in the 2012 BCS National Championship Game, the Tigers will dominate the Crimson Tide to finish their perfect season.

The LSU defense is ranked No. 2 in the country, and it will be a unit that leads them to victory against Alabama. Les Miles will have his team ready to finish their unbeaten run and cement themselves as one of college football's best teams ever.

Let's look at four reasons why the Tigers will dominate Alabama in the title game.

1) LSU will force AJ McCarron to beat them

AJ McCarron is just an average quarterback, and in the first meeting between these two schools, he was unable to carry the Crimson Tide offense when running back Trent Richardson was struggling.

McCarron threw for 2,400 yards with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions this season, and while those stats aren't bad, he rarely had to win a game by himself against an elite opponent.

Against LSU in November, McCarron only passed for 199 yards with no touchdowns and an interception.

He is not good enough to beat the supremely talented LSU defense by himself, and forcing him to beat the Tigers is a smart strategy for coach Miles.

2) LSU has beaten eight ranked team this season

LSU has been tested quite well this season against eight ranked teams, including two games against top five programs, with wins against Oregon and Alabama.

Not only did the Tigers not lose against the best teams, they dominated them. In six of their eight games against ranked teams, LSU scored 40 or more points.

The Tigers are an experienced team that are used to being the hunted and have been ranked No. 1 since October 1.

They know what it's like to have immense pressure on them each week, and you cannot underestimate that fact in this national championship matchup.

3) Tyrann Mathieu

The "Honey Badger" is one of the best cornerbacks in the country, and he is a talented playmaker who can win games with huge momentum-swinging plays.

Mathieu does a really good job of tackling and forcing fumbles, and his defensive play this season was good enough to make him a Heisman Trophy candidate.

The Honey Badger will be a vital part of LSU's game plan to limit the effectiveness of Alabama running back Trent Richardson.

4) The Superdome makes the BCS title a semi-home game for LSU

LSU will play Alabama in the Superdome in New Orleans, which is only about 60 miles from the Tigers' campus in Baton Rouge.

The Superdome is the site of the Sugar Bowl, which is actually the site of the BCS title game this season.

We all know how passionate the LSU fans are, and you can bet they will make the short travel in large numbers to witness their football team make history against their SEC rival.

Having a huge number of fans will certainly benefit the Tigers players, who will feed off their energy throughout the game.
