Robert Griffin III: Why Baylor's Insane Alamo Bowl Win Will Convince Him to Stay

Randy ChambersDec 30, 2011

Now that Robert Griffin and the Baylor Bears have wrapped up this wonderful season with an exciting bowl victory, it's time to focus completely on what decision quarterback Robert Griffin will make.

Will he return for his senior season at Baylor or will he take his talents to the NFL draft?

Many believe he will forgo his senior year and enter the draft in April. He helped make Baylor relevant, won the Heisman trophy and helped Baylor win their first bowl game since 1992.

His stock is through the roof and would become one of the top two quarterbacks picked in the draft. He is guaranteed a first-round pick, especially with USC quarterback Matt Barkley returning to school. Many believe that you leave for the draft when your stock is as high as it's going to get.

Griffin's stock is clearly as high as it's going to get. He went from being a player that was rarely talked about to the face of college football this season. Nobody could talk about exciting players without bringing up Griffin's name.

But what if it's not about that with Griffin?

What if he really cares about Baylor and wants to return for his final season to really put his stamp on the program?

Returning would give him a chance to win two Heisman trophies, which has only been done once in the history of college football. He would instantly become the favorite to win the award along with a selected few.

He would also have a chance to lead the Bears to a BCS bowl. With everything going on in the Big 12 with players leaving and two key teams heading to the SEC, Baylor has a legitimate shot. After this season, I really wouldn't bet against him.

I know it's unheard of that somebody would really care that much about a program and put their future plans on hold for the sake of the university. But if anybody will do it, it appears to be Griffin.

He's a great kid, that's very smart and seems to have his values in the right order. Also, during the Heisman presentation, he just couldn't stop mentioning Baylor and thanking the team before he talked about himself. He wants to see this program do bigger things than what they accomplished this season.

That could start with him returning for his senior year.

What happened in the Alamo Bowl also gives him another reason to possibly return. He is having loads of fun playing for this team and is enjoying the ride. Who wouldn't want to have another season like this, scoring tons of points and actually winning for a change?

Griffin could really build off of this season, with another great performance next year. He may even be able to jump Matt Barkley as the top quarterback next year and become the No.1 overall pick.

The guy who wears Superman socks will be fine with whatever decision he makes. And one thing is guaranteed. We will all be watching what he does next.
