NBA Rumors: Joel Przybilla Should Take His Talents to South Beach
You know it's a slow news days when Joel Przybilla's name pops up on your radar.
There's a reason Przybilla's name is on the radar today, though. There's a report out from Gery Woelfel of The Journal Times that claims Przybilla wants to keep playing and that his agent expects him to decide where to play next shortly after New Year's.
There are a couple teams in the mix for Przybilla's talents, such as they are. Chief among them is the Milwaukee Bucks, who view Przybilla as a much-needed backup for Andrew Bogut. Also in the mix are the Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Clippers.
Assuming their interest in Przybilla is sincere, the veteran big man would be best-served taking his talents to South Beach to join the Miami Heat.
What the heck, right? Przybilla is not due for a big payday no matter where he goes, so he may as well choose the best situation. The best situation for him is in Miami.
There are a couple of things about the Heat that should pique Przybilla's interest. First and foremost is the depth the Heat have at the center position. None of the guys they have are particularly good, but their sheer wealth of big men will mean fewer minutes for Przybilla.
Yes, fewer minutes are a good thing in this case. Przybilla is playing on a right knee that has undergone multiple surgeries, so it's in his interest to limit the damage. If he does, he can keep playing for another year or two after the abbreviated 2011-2012 season comes to a close. If he so chooses, of course.
Przybilla should also be attracted to the prospect of winning a championship. This Heat team went to the Finals last season, and they're looking pretty darn good in the early goings this season.
Przybilla hasn't sniffed a championship since entering the league with the Bucks in 2000. He may as well spend what's left of his career chasing one. Going back to Milwaukee won't help him much in that regard, and it's way too soon to assume that the Clippers are Finals material.
The Heat are. Przybilla should tag along for the ride.
