Gunner Kiel to LSU: Where Does Notre Dame and Brian Kelly Go from Here at QB?
Quarterback Gunner Kiel was one of the top prospects of the year and was considering joining Notre Dame, but he ended up becoming an LSU Tiger instead. The Irish were one of the few teams the 5-star recruit was considering, along with Vanderbilt.
Although Notre Dame missed out on a top recruit, they should not be upset that a commitment didn't happen. This team still has a bunch of other talented players at the quarterback position.
Here are a few options the Irish have on their roster moving forward.
Tommy Rees
1 of 3Tommy Rees ended up taking the starting job from Dayne Crist and will likely remain the favorite to be the starter heading into next season as well.
Rees has shown he is capable of being the starting quarterback and has displayed a great deal of leadership. This season, he has completed 65 percent of his passes for 2,070 yards and 19 touchdowns. The only complaint many have with him are his poor decisions with the football, which have resulted in 12 interceptions.
Rees is a solid option and will likely improve his decision making with more experience.
Andrew Hendrix
2 of 3Andrew Hendrix has only thrown 29 passes in his short career for 225 yards and a touchdown. He does have a lot of potential, as he has great size at 6'3", 220 pounds and great arm strength.
He is also a solid runner, as he has a 6.5 yards-per-carry average this season. He's tough to bring down when he gets going with his size, and he's capable of making throws on the run as well.
The downside is that he doesn't have much experience and still needs to work on his accuracy.
Everett Golson
3 of 3Everett Golson hasn't played yet this season, but he's the quarterback that Irish fans are the most excited about.
When he's given time, he can shred secondaries with his arm strength and his quick release. Although the thing that makes him most dangerous are his legs, as he's extremely fast. He can pick up a huge chunk of yards if you're not careful. He would fit in extremely well in Brian Kelly's system.
The negatives are that he is 5'11" and under 200 pounds.
Overall Golson will see a lot of playing time next season and will eventually become the starter for this team.
