France v Morocco - FIFA World Cup 2026 - Quarter Final

It looked easy for France, didn't it?

The French cruised past Morocco and into the semifinals with a 2-0 win. It was a goal from none other than Kylian Mbappe that broke the deadlock. Astonishingly, Mbappe has now played 20 World Cup games and scored 20 World Cup goals. Despite having his penalty saved by Yassine Bounou in the first half, Didier Deschamps' striker made amends with his strike on the hour mark.

Mbappe, notably, would exit the field after going down in the second half. He waved to the fans upon his exit, but was later shown with an ice pack on his ankle.

More than any other team at this summer's tournament, France's attack looks unstoppable. Within the span of a minute in the second half, Michael Olise turned brilliantly in the final third and nearly created a chance for Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele hit a one-touch switch, and Desire Doue pulled off a disguised backheel. No team can rival their firepower, with Dembele adding the second goal. The Moroccans, missing Ismael Saibari up top, barely troubled France going the other direction and found shots to be at a premium. Despite some intentional overloads on the right wing and flashes of quality in buildup, Morocco's attack was always playing second fiddle to a responsible French defense. There's no shame in bowing out to France, but it's clear that Morocco more than met their match in the quarterfinals.

With their spot in the semifinals booked, France will play the winner of Spain and Belgium in Dallas on July 14th.

There have been fireworks aplenty in Foxborough between France and Morocco, despite a scoreless first half.

With a semifinal spot on the line, France have shown consistent threat venturing forward into the attack. They've found chances via quick counters, sustained possession, set pieces – you name it, France have used it to trouble Morocco. Still, a sensational first 45 minutes from Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou has seen the CAF side keep themselves in the match.

Thanks to Bounou, Kylian Mbappe's penalty kick was denied partway through the first half. The shot-stopper also made a big early intervention on a header from Dayot Upamecano and saved Désiré Doué's effort later on. The real trouble for Morocco, though, is their lack of attacking threat. Still without a shot in open play, they simply haven't troubled France. Will Morocco find a breakthrough in the second half? Or will France press their advantage?
