Mexico v England: Round Of 16 - FIFA World Cup 2026

It's a gusty win for The Three Lions after enduring long stretches of not playing well and being forced to defend deep. How they won will be irrelevant after what they accomplished in this victory. They became only the third team in history to beat Mexico in a competitive match at the Azteca. They were the only team at the World Cup to score against El Tri. This all happened in what will be remembered as one of the best games in the tournament.

England nearly made it three immediately in the second half. A looping ball fell kindly to Nico O'Reilly, who blasted a volley on target that deflected off Jude Bellingham's right shin into the right post. It felt like England would take control in the second half. That changed four minutes later when Jarell Quansah was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Jesus Gallardo. Lingering issues at right back have affected Thomas Tuchel's team for most of the tournament. Just when it seemed like it would haunt them once again, England responded with authority.

Harry Kane used his body well to shield the ball into Anthony Gordon's path. The rapid winger latched onto the ball and accelerated into the box to draw a penalty against goalkeeper Raul Rangel. After a disappointing start to the tournament, Barcelona's first big summer signing has made a major difference in the knockout stage. Kane would go on to score from the spot in signature fashion by smashing his penalty into the left corner.

There would be another penalty seven minutes later, as Kane lazily left his leg out while attempting a clearance that caught substitute Brian Gutierrez. Raul Jimenez would score coolly to make it 3-2, sending the Azteca into a state of euphoria. Mexico started ramping up the pressure in the final half hour. Santiago Gimenez curled in a shot just over the bar at the edge of the penalty box off a cross from Gutierrez. How they struggled in the end to create chances cost them.

England defended valiantly with ten men to hang onto their lead. John Stones and Djed Spence were excellent as substitutes, making several tackles and clearances. Bellingham took the initiative to regain possession and progress the ball with his exceptional dribbling in tight areas. It was a well-deserved win for England in the most hostile environment imaginable. They will face Norway in the quarterfinals in Miami.

A six-minute explosion turned a cagey first half into a memorable one. England didn't attempt a shot until the 26th minute, as Mexico was the more physically imposing team. England often lost possession, which led to them struggling to find any rhythm. They were fortunate not to be down early.

The game's first real chance came in the 15th minute, when Roberto Alvarado put a precise ball into the box for Raul Jimenez to meet in stride. The powerful header looked goal-bound, but Jordan Pickford reacted quickly to make a sharp low save. That was a warning sign for England, yet they responded with authority. An outstanding counter started by Pickford's throw led to Bukayo Saka finding space on the right. His cross was met by Jude Bellingham, who was unmarked in the box, for a statement goal.

The Real Madrid star would get a brace two minutes later after Elliott Anderson impressively won the ball back. It led to Harry Kane finding space to connect with Bellingham for another terrific team goal. Mexico would respond four minutes later, as their leading goal scorer, Julian Quinones, would deliver again after finding space in the box. He capitalized on Marc Guehi's failed clearance to get El Tri back in the game. They finished the half on a high note, nearly scoring twice, including one that saw Pickford make another fantastic reaction save to deny Jimenez. This game has all the makings of being an all-time classic if this pace continues.

Brazil v Norway: Round of 16 - FIFA World Cup 2026

Norway has officially arrived on the world stage. Led by their superstar forward, they have beaten one of the sport's true heavyweights to advance to the quarterfinals. The win is well-deserved after dominating possession for most of the match. They defended resolutely. The midfield kept the ball moving progressively. With a tremendous performance by goalkeeper Orjan Nyland, it was a total team effort capped off by a header from their leader, who has scored in all four games he has played.

Brazil did play noticeably better to start the second half. That led to a major chance in the 59th minute, where Vinicus Junior played an exceptional ball with the outside of his right boot to Endrick in exquisite fashion. All the stars were aligning for the electrifying playmaker to make an immediate impact off the bench after replacing Matheus Cunha. Endrick couldn't get his feet settled after a poor touch to finish off Vinicius' brilliance.

Brazil ramped up the pressure with Rayan's low shot, forcing Nyland into a good save. Despite his costly miss, Endrick's introduction to the game turned the tide in Brazil's favor for some time. Norway would eventually bounce back with Erling Haaland nearly getting on the end of a tremendous ball from Kristoffer Ajer, who used the outside of his right boot to create a near highlight-reel goal.

Haaland would eventually get his inevitable goal. Substitute Andreas Schjelderup blazed past Endrick to put in a terrific cross for Norway's all-time leading goal scorer to pounce on. Beating his archrival Gabriel to the ball by cutting inside, Haaland scored a thunderous header to put the Vikings ahead. He would secure the win with a powerful low shot just outside the box into the bottom-right corner. It was another emphatic goal to earn Norway its greatest victory ever.

Brazil would get a consolation goal from Neymar off a penalty kick after a careless elbow from Leo Ostigard. It would mean little in the end, in what is the sixth consecutive tournament in which Brazil has been eliminated by a European country. Norway will move on to face the winner of the Mexico vs. England match.

t's been an eventful first half in one of the most fascinating round of 16 matchups. While Norway has dominated possession, Brazil has looked far more dangerous going forward with their array of talent. The Selecao nearly fell behind early in what would have been an astonishing start.

Norway nearly scored in the third minute with Alexander Sorloth using his massive frame on the right flank to create space to assist Patrick Berg on the cutback. What appeared to be a stunning goal was ruled out because Sorloth made his run too early. Despite the goal not counting, Norway made their attacking intent clear. It would only take ten minutes for the next game-altering moment.

Bruno Guimaraes and Gabriel Martinelli combined for a swift move to find Matheus Cunha on the left. As the ball arrived, Kristoffer Ajer was caught a step behind and brought down the Manchester United star in the box. Most anticipated Vinicius Junior to take the penalty, but Guimaraes stepped up. It was a curious decision by Carlo Ancelotti that ultimately backfired. Goalkeeper Orjan Nyland read Guimaraes perfectly to make a massive save. Both teams have produced decent chances, but neither has established real control. Brazil came closest to breaking the deadlock, with Vinicius Junior winning back possession in a dangerous area. His shot was sharply saved by Nyland to keep the game scoreless at halftime.
